It's going meh D: But I must not lose hope!

I think it's going meh because I haven't resigned myself to the fact that oxford is much more expensive than Edinburgh. I've put up a couple posts on flatshare sites though so we shall see.

How are you doing? Still off work?

Ack. Living on your own is expensive, no matter where it is!

I'm well! And yep, still off work. This afternoon I'm just hanging out watching TV shows and working on some crochet projects C:

Urgh, I just found what might be the perfect appartment, but if I want to contact the person without waiting a week I have to pay to upgrade my account :( But it might be gone by then......

angry face I should probably do it.

Sounds like a plan :D What shows are you into atm and what project are you working on? Did your crochet christmas presents work out well? I don't think I followed up on that aha.

Haha, it definitely takes a certain type of person to manage that type of chaos. I think I'm okay with one or two kids, but that's my max.

Sounds like the struggle that so many people our age go through :/ I know way too many people, myself included, who graduated uni and then were completely disillusioned by the opportunities out there. I've always been a planner, so it was super unsettling not having an idea where my life was going. I was always a straight A student, and to go from that to taking the only job I was offered, a year after graduation was an eye opener. Have you thought about what you'd want to do, if you were to change careers?

I'll be crossing my fingers for you that you get it! Are you going to be living on your own or with a roommate? I bought some wool today to make a baby blanket for a friend of mine who's due in November C: We got together this weekend while I was at home and I thought it'd be a nice gift, and it gives me something to do with all this time off ;) But today I am just working on a dishcloth. I FINALLY found a pattern book that my mom gave me for Christmas. I've been looking for it everywhere. So to use up some wool that I've had forever I'm working on that while watching Food Network Star ;)

Sounds like we're very similar (I already knew that, though ;)) I was also a straight A student and everyone had big plans for me. I'm a HUGE planner so it's also really upsetting to not really see any kind of future or direction in what I'm doing now. I talked a lot with Nathan last night and I think I've decided that if this spa goes south (if all the rumours are true and we do actually close in August) I might try out ONE more spa, but if that's also a negative environment then I'm out. Two bad spas may just be bad luck, but three would mean that the industry just isn't for me. Which is a shame, because I really do enjoy what I do.

I feel you D: I've found out I don't like not having the next couple of years planned out lol.

I'm going to be so lost (again) when I finish my phD O_O

How are you doing? :*

Thanks :* Oh with at least one flatmate for sure :o Too expensive otherwise. Aw, that's such a sweet gift! Yay for finally finding something you've been looking for for ages. It is just such an annoying feeling when you can't find something specific D:

Food network star :o Is that like top chef and that sort of show?

Do you know who you'd be living with? Or are you just trying to find a place and then you'll get a roommate after?

Yep! Kind of like that show! ;)

Sometimes that works out really well! In uni I lived in an apartment with two other girls. One of which I knew from childhood and the other I'd never met before and it was GREAT! The girl and I got to know each other in the roommate pretext and really liked each other!

Yayyyy hugs Most people have been telling me their bad experiences, so I'm glad for both of us you have a good experience to share ^^

Did you live in flatshares the whole time?

Yep! All through university and a little after too. As soon as I could afford it though I lived on my own (after one bad roommate experience, but her and I knew each other before living together)

You just can never tell. So weird.

That's pretty cool that it mostly worked out well for you. I lived one year in a flat on my own and that was really nice since I'm not much of a people person to begin with XD

We are very similar, haha. Though, I feel we're a common story in our generation. It's not just one or two people who have these experiences, it's many of us. Have you watched Girls at all? I watched the first episode recently, to see what all the fuss was about, and feel it kind of hit on how our generation feels crappy about our work options. When I was younger, 27 looked A LOT different in my mind. Though I really shouldn't complain, since changing jobs I feel a lot better about my trajectory.

So you're happy sticking with the spa business? As long as you feel good about going to work everyday, then that's whats most important. Why is there a rumour about closing? It's not due to the sink hole is it?

You'll be super grad though ;) You'd have a PhD, it's not like the legions of us that have BAs. I found out last week I was one of 200 (!) applicants at my new job. I feel like a struck gold in a way. I'm sure many of those others were just as qualified.

You've time to figure out what you're doing though... you have the rest of the year, right? What kind of jobs are you considering? Start applying early. That was one mistake I made... assuming it would be a lot easier than it was.

Living alone was just so nice since I could do what I want when I wanted.. leave my own messes and clean when I felt like it. I loved it! Any news today about flats?

I haven't watched Girls. I'll have to check it out!

I'm happy to stick it out a little while longer to see if there's anything good for me in it. Right now I want to swap to something new, but we'll see what the next few months bring.

There's been rumours of us closing since I started back in February. Our lease is up August 1 and we get phone calls all the time from bill collectors and just really weird "relocation specialists". So people seem to think we're either relocating or going bankrupt. August is just around the corner.. so I imagine we'll know soon what's up.

How goes it today?

Heya :) Eh I was just a bit bored. Looking for flats isn't going the best D: How are you doing?

Oh wow, that's a lot of applicants for the one job O_O I can imagine the hell of selecting just one person. I guess the interview is all important.

I hope so :o Though apparently in certain positions they prefer people with masters that they can train however they like. Ah well, we shall hope ^^

I'm not applying for jobs :o PhDs are pretty full time! No I'm looking for an appartment for next year.

There was one I liked, but then I mailed them and they said, oh sorry, this one's been taken for a month XD So not really lol. I'm still looking through options, though I think I'm going to end up further from town than I hoped D:

It was a pretty rigorous interview process, I was actually here for about 3-4 hours, if I remember right? I only did that one in=person interview before I was hired, though.

Oh, so you're not starting your PhD until next year? I thought you were already started on your last year. Even more time to figure everything out then :) I imagine you're going for jobs that require very specific skills as a PhD anyway, so there's probably less competition?

I haven't got very far into it - 2-3 eps maybe? It's very HBO/cable-y, if you've seen any other HBO shows, you'll know what I mean, haha. But I liked it better than I thought I would, so far anyway.

That's a good approach. I'm assuming you're one of the more senior people now, because you mentioned high turnover. Is there a chance you'd get a promotion, assuming the spa is safe from closing? Hopefully they have the courtesy to give you a bit of notice if they do. It's getting really close.

Hmm, those calls are a bit odd, but they could just be looking to scoop the real estate commission. We get real estate agents calling all the time about selling our house. They're just cold calling looking to get lucky with someone willing to sell.
