People are bringing up "Gamergate" like people bring up ISIS for everything irl. There's a group, they're well-known and they're blamed for everything. It's ridiculous (as is the whole "Gamergate" thing itself).
More communication would be great. If someone's willing to work overnight, that would be great. It doesn't make sense to have every staff member only working during the same hours.
Also joining in to say USE THE DAMN SOCIAL MEDIA TO TELL US STUUFFFF. Give us updates. give us posts on what you're doing (Like "just spent 15 minutes working w/ 'x' to try to fix 'y'"). Don't just give us canned "we'll be right back" or "looks like there was a problem w/ the servers" posts. Those are just as good as nothing, tbh. A bot could do that. I don't want a bot. WE don't want a bot. We want staff who clearly cares. It doesnt take more than 40 seconds out of your "work time", so it shouldn't interrupt shit at all.
[edit] Also I didn't think all the staffers are in N. America. Isn't the Creative Director European? I was preeeeetyyyy sure her profile said she lived in the UK, so like, couldn't she be the person who checks to make sure subeta is up while literally every staff member who could fix or notify someone to fix the problem is asleep?
Downtime happens. It's unfortunate that it was so long this time. I'm more interested in why anyone 'gamergate' related would want to attack Subeta, although I understand that being vague about the issue can protect the site from deeper involvement. We all need to remember this.
(One side thing: 'gamergate' was initially about a lack of transparency in game reporting, NOT about gender inequality. The events spiraling out from it are related to gender inequality and to harassment of women, including slut-shaming of reporters and the posting of personal information online. Its important to talk about this, but maybe not in Site Feedback.)
I respectfully disagree on the note of posting to another source is "Posting "The site is down!" on twitter is just as useful as the site actually, and obviously, being down."
Having the site be down doesn't mean everyone knows this as you've said the staff was sleeping. So having the site say it's down, doesn't mean anything to the fact that the staff knows right?
SO...posting to outside sources that someone knows the site is down and it's being worked on IS a good thing and gives us some idea that you all aren't sleeping.
I do think it doesn't make sense that, a lot of users spend RL money to "keep the site going" yet things like this still happen... I am totally aware that this "because of the battling" and that other things "were going smoothly" but I disagree, there have been a lot of "Subeta's down" errors since and a site event shouldn't "crash" the servers after these many years.
Either a few staff are asking for too much money to help run this site, which in turn is causing no profit to keep the site going smoothly or management isn't doing something right. If the staff are always doing things right, these kinks should have been worked out ages ago.
Then there are the people who just run around bashing the shit out of the staff and the others who put their rose colored glasses on and smile saying how empathetic they are for the staff. Which turns into this stupid argument over the fact that something needs to change. That's all it boils down to.
[edit] Just to be clear, I am behind the frustration and have always been but I don't think there is a clear way to stop having this happen, every time it does, there is an excuse and everyone says "oooh it wasn't their fault" and we gloss it over. It's getting very old, very, very, old. Please get this sorted out.
I do love this site but things like this make me wonder aside from the friends I've made here why I still bother, I guess that explains the times I've went on hiatus from this site.
Please, please get this fixed.
Read that again.
Go Bills!
I just find it funny that we are directed to these resources on the down page but they are not ever used. Yet sadly I come to expect this kind of shit from Subeta staff... we beg for communication and we get it for a little bit and then it falls by the wayside again.
I understand timezones and actually do not feel that people should jump out of bed to fix the site, but I DO THINK that Subeta should probably have someone "on-site" 24/7 to ensure that things run smoothly. And maybe give some power to people that work overnight to update twitter if something happens.
I disagree... because really all people want is an acknowledgement that someone on staff is aware something is wrong and that it will be looked into. This is the common thread with all the feedback. It has been for at least two years: more communication. It goes in one ear and out the other for Keith, though.
Very little lag? LOL. Where have you been? Very little lag... that's fucking hilarious.
If the site's down for up to a couple of hours, it's probably not the hassle to post when the staff have their hand full working on it. However, it was down and giving the same error message for almost half a day. By then, most of the people would be wondering what's going on, and most importantly to them, an estimate when the site is coming back. The only posts elsewhere were by OTHER people on Facebook, and the only clue they gave was how long the downtime roughly happened. I don't think anyone would enjoy polling the refresh button every minute after hours of waiting, when instead they could be given a hint so they could do something elsewhere with their valuable time. So yes, some acknowledgement outside the site would be really appreciated.
The Twitter and Facebook accounts are so underused for things like this that I've stopped even checking them anymore for info beyond "Am I the only one who subeta won't load for? No, I see two others who posted." I'll just go off somewhere else and periodically check to see if the site came back or not then plan accordingly.
Site down? Not back up within 10-20 minutes? Load up The Sims and forget about subeta.

Jesus Christ guys, if they post 'the site is down!' every time it goes down that's all their twitter will consist of. It's already gone down like three times today that I've been witness to.
If it were a long period that we couldn't get on the site at all then definitely, that would be great for the social network pages to be used to communicate with users. But as for this present surge of downtime I think everyone already knows it's going on and it's been acknowledged in the announcements. This generally happens when a popular event is going on and unfortunately it looks like they haven't yet found a way to deal with the increased traffic. If there's some DDoS bullshit going on too I haven't a clue about it but that will certainly make things worse. I'm not trying to act like these problem aren't problems, but I at least expect it by now and have other things I can do when it goes down, so I'm probably more chill as a rule. SPOILER (click to toggle)
pffft, I'm just happy because I like the new halloween-y items and because I know this site is a childish waste of my time anyway. oh well, I guess I like it none the less.
So battling killed the servers, which caused the downtime? Maybe you should, oh, check to ensure everything is working before releasing a ton of new opponents? Or release the opponents one by one? Or have someone monitoring the site every few hours to ensure that everything is working properly? I mean, this isn't a surprise, right? It's been 10 years, and shit like this happens EVERY FUCKING EVENT. I expect this site to be up and running smoothing during events, because this is a business.
. . . you're kidding, right? Where the hell have you been? We've have several instances of downtime/lag/yo-yoing. Does any of the Staff actually play the site? Every day?
If selfies can be posted to the official subeta tumblr. I don't think it's that much of a stretch to ask for information or lack of information to be posted on other social media sites.

But I agree, I think it's absolutely necessary for the Twitter and Facebook to be used far more when it comes to downtimes. I don't know if only one person has the ability to post on those, or if it's multiple staff members, but I hardly even bother checking them to find out what's going on since they're rarely updated.
There's never much info on them for me to actually check, at this point. I just ask if the site is down for any other members and if yes, give an "UGGGGHHHH".
I actually find the gamergate response less satisfying than the even more vague DDoS response we got before that.
What does gamergate have to do with Subeta, and how do we know it's related? Like I just don't get why anyone would try to take the site down, unless it's just an easy target?
With the timing, I just figured it was excessive traffic because of Morostide. Now I'm confused.

I mean, theoretically it could still be people who remember longcat and decided "Hey, we're attacking people, let's attack Subeta too", but that's kind of a stretch.... I don't know what Subeta has to do with gamergate either. How did relatively little fish Subeta attract the attention of web terrorists?
I'm glad the site is technically back up and all, but it's so slow I can't even do anything anyway. It took three attempts just to get this thread to load. Might as well have stayed down for all the good it's been today.

lmao, gamergate? Seriously? I love how you just casually drop that and then are done responding to the thread. I really doubt any of those people care about hassling subeta anymore, they're busy stalking female journalists, writing angry missives to advertisers and comparing basement conditions.
This happens during every single event.. You know battling is a huge strain on the site, so why isn't it being monitored? Odd there would even be a time of day when there are no staff available, period. I always assumed someone is around, given that not all staffers even live in the US.
I don't see a need to complain. The site was down - quite disappointing. But let the sstuff handle it afret they got up. Going for a walk, finding something new and interesting while the site is down would be great. I don't think that everyone who's complaining donates to Subeta regularly, so we probably shouldn't complain. Basically its free and we should be grateful that stuff continues running subeta.
And personally I almost forgot about yesterday's trouble due to decreased Pumpkin Patch cooldown! :3 Thank you for rewarding us.
