that's frustrating when achievements don't work.

I guess I haven't been reading up on the complaints, since I was away most of yesterday and haven't caught up yet today. I did see a bit of grumbling, but didn't take it too seriously. Though I have no sympathy for the grumblers. I didn't get thousands in that initial time frame, I didn't use an autorefresher, etc, and I got in the top 10%. Yes it was HARD work...so what?

I'm actually a little annoyed with much of the grumbling I've read up before yesterday. In past events, people have been complaining again and again, that they didn't know what they'd get, that they would have worked a little harder had they known all details, etc, etc. So in this event, from the very start staff have explained every detail ahead of time...and people find yet another reason to complain. I must begin to believe its sheer laziness and entitlement, that past grumbles have merely been excuses to explain away, in their own minds, why they didn't win top prizes.

As for getting thousands out at the very beginning, I fully agree that it wasn't cheating. If staff didn't consider the implications it was their own fault. The only reason I didn't do it myself is that I simply didn't figure out how to do it until after the time delay was implemented. But that's on me. It wasn't a glitch that people took advantage of, the system was created that way. And staff really should have known better after all the issues and problems created with the free beer issue.

LOL and after that diatribe...I'm happy I got the achievement for 10% - but the title sucks and the extra prizes are nothing to write home about.

You need to go post that on the grumbling topics! You are able to speak clearly and concisely without bringing emotions into it. That is a gift.

As for other prizes for the top 10%, as far as I can see the achievement is the only extra. Yes, the title is stupid. Maybe amusing for those of a younger age but really, I will never use it.

Okay, I've spent the past hour making calculations based on all the numbers given and some major guess work. We know total snowballs thrown. We know the min needed to hit the top 10%. We know the total number of people who "signed" up. What we don't know, is the number of people who were actually awarded the 10% prize and we don't know how many people were removed from the equation because they threw 2 or less snowballs.

10% of users who signed up is 475ish, and if you take that # and multiply by 38,332 you get an impossible # of snowballs. So the "10%" has to be a lot less than 475. The numbers make sense if you remove a little more than half the participants. Basically it comes down to the actual number awarded is much closer to 5% and that makes a huge difference if you were trying to estimate how many snowballs you needed to toss to make it into the top 10%.

I find myself agreeing with the people complaining about this particular issue. We were told the top 10% would 'win' and that's simply not the case. 5% ≠ 10%, no matter how you cut it.

The other complaints, however, I still don't agree with.

I was going to ask in the help forum but since you answer most of those posts I will just ask you directly. For the comatose lizard do you know if we need to get rid of the trap or spray or both to make it more likely to happen?

Its not the actual amount that pisses me off, its that it was changed after the fact. It would have better if they hadn't given us the info at all - as it was many people counted on that 10% figured combined with the other info we were given and in the end it turned out to be all fiction.

For the comatose lizard you have a much higher chance of getting it with ONLY the trap in your inventory. Apparently, there is a very small random chance of getting both the comatose lizard AND the item if you have both trap and spray, but it has to be a very small chance. I had both in my inventory for years and never got a comatose lizard. I removed the spray and got the comatose lizard after one or two lizard events.

And for your earlier question, I got a raffle point this morning, not sure which post, but I've probably posted more this morning than I have all week...so.

I read some posts this morning that I nearly responded to but ended up holding my...fingers, lol. They were saying that if only there had a been a prize shop then no one would have been able to complain because they would have the points they earned to spend. We know from past events that even with prize shops people still get upset and are not happy and complain. It is truly impossible to please everyone, not ALL the time but even ANY of the time. That is just a fact of life!

I personally have learned that when it comes to subeta, if I want to get anywhere in an event I have to work and work and over-achieve. Even then there are always going to be people who do better than I. And I have often missed the top tier of whatever it is going on, and been unhappy. Initially I complain (privately, to you guys!) about how things were handled. But eventually you get over it and move on and something else comes along to complain about.

Having said that...it still really irks me that the first reading drive I participated in myself and only 2 others turned in every loving book on the site. Including the achievement books won for turning in a certain number of books during that event. And yet, other people who turned in fewer books got the same prizes as we did, ended up in t=he same tier as we three did. And that was the year they decided not to give trophies too.

Okay, so I don't always get over it!

And, yeah I know. That's why I didn't stop at 25K - which is what I estimated would be needed for the top 10, and continued to toss snowballs until the very end. I was just so surprised that I barely made it when I thought I'd be in the middle of the pack. I do understand why people are upset.

For sure I've read several complaints that are polar opposites to previous complaints...if only! The ones that I giggle at are the people who are saying the prizes suck - like they were expecting something other than old melody items! When we were told that's what the prizes would be and that's what we got.

And lol I think I misread, I thought I got 5 melody items instead of 3 for being in the 10%, but I got the extras for being on the winning team. Which is fine, since I pretty much dismissed the prizes from the very beginning and only worked on the top 10 to get the achievement.

I never said anything about unfair limits/using AR/etc but the math was not working for me. So glad Scarsdale just fixed it or maybe did something to please all us bellyachers. :P Of course I only bent Georgie's Ear mostly yesterday.

Yep I got it. Makes a whole lot more sense with the math that others should have got the 10%. I wouldn't if I were you. You will be hated. ;)

Oh wow! Congrats on finally getting it. I know you earned it a while back, it must be great to actually have it listed! A great title too :D.

I'm glad they fixed the numbers. One thing, while I was calculating possibilities the idea of 1% would have also made sense, using a different way of calculating. If that was the case, if they simply dropped a decimal place in their formula then the new cut off of somewhere around 4K makes a lot of sense.
