Ooh, I'm really happy to hear about this. I remember seeing someone make a complaint about the word gypsy being used. I hope that group of users feel a lot better now!

Honestly I am happy that Subeta is taking it on a case by case to change. It can be a slippery slope when considering what others find offensive. For the record, the word vagina should not be considered offensive as it is the correct terminology for a woman's genitals. If you find it offensive I actually feel kind of bad for you, as it is the term your doctor would use. I'd much rather my children learn the correct term than catching every slang offensive term that they can.

I personally always loved that word. I never thought such a beautiful word would be racist?? I'm quite sad to be honest. I mean, i'm glad Subeta is aware of this as well now and is making changes accordingly though. I like the word nomad too! It's a good switch and fits Subeta perfectly. Overall this is a positive change, but please dear god do not turn into a SJW site. They are some of the worst people i've ever had the displeasure of dealing with in my life. (note that I am not talking about actual social justice, i am all for that and participate in such) Please do not confuse actual social justice with tumblr social justice... Don't get carried away.

Slurs are more important than physical abuse??? Get the fuck out of here. Is this really where the worlds mentality is right now? That's fucked up. Just no... a word is not more important than violence. Violence is universally wrong and horrible whereas a word in one place may have a different connotation than another place. I get the issue with these kinds of words, don't get me wrong. But what you said is absolutely asinine. They are both issues. I would rather be called a slur than physically abused. The items making light of such things should be changed as well since all of the sudden Subeta cares about these types of things. So many items could be problematic.

I'll admit, I was one of the few people who didn't realize that it was considered a racial slur because I never really thought about where the word came from, but now that I've done my research I understand why it's offensive to some people. I have to thank subeta for giving me the drive to educate myself about it so I don't sound like an ignorant pig should a conversation about it come up IRL.

Who would it be a slur to? o.O It doesn't suggest any racial context, nor does it suggest any context to gender, age, sexuality, weight, intelligence, region, what have you. The word pig? I can see that one as being a slur for a person who is intentionally rude to others, in which case I have no sympathy if someone chooses to be intentionally mean. That is their choice, not something they are born with and have no control over. Ignorance is defined as someone who is ignorant to a fact, or doesn't know about it.

So basically what I said was, I don't want to seem like a complete asshole to other people without realizing it. I'm already awkward enough as it is already, I don't need someone hating me over something offensive I said without realizing it xP

I meant no ill will,trust me,but you assume that people are arguing whether it is a slur or not,you can research all you want,it is to some it isn't to others....there is a famous group who come from the line of gypsies who call themselves the gypsies kings .only spelled with an I...they are gypsies and proud of it..this is a debate that could go on forever and never be solved...what you see are not people arguing about it,but asking,where does it end..what is offensive to some is not to others...is every word gonna be banned if it offends someone....I hear things everyday that offend me,to the core..but that's what free speech is all about,you can't just allow what you agree with...as much as it offends you

I was just having a similar discussion last night with my bf about social justice warriors, etc. I just meant I was surprised people were making a big deal over it. It's just one word they changed on subeta, it's not like they modified the dictionary, and it's not like they're secretly plotting to reform the site to make everything politically correct, or lord forbid, neopets, blegh.

I just found it surprisng, that's all. As for me, call me anything you want, just don't call me late for dinner :P

It is my personal opinion as someone who has been abused, so please give me a little credit instead of trying to take my opinion as me stating fact. I am not disagreeing concerning violence and abuse, I was referring to the items specifically here on this site seeing as this thread is about items specifically on this site and this subforum is about updates to this site. I only know of very few items that make light of or joke about abusive situations (not to imply I have every item memorized), while there were entire sets using a racist term. My individual post reflecting one individual opinion is by no means a reflection of 'the world's mentality' and it's not a good idea to make generalizations like that. I did not say they shouldn't be changed, I said I think they should, but I've taken the advice that gets posted around here often just avoided problematic items. This is a step in the right direction for this site, and frankly I'd (again, personally) prefer high numbers of racist or culturally harmful items have priority over one or two specific items for other issues. It isn't one or the other here. Since I have no wish to argue in what's just an update thread, if there's really that much of an issue over me expressing an opinion about the items, please message me.

at all of you kids. in my 55 years on this Earth i have Never heard of the word Gypsy being used as a racial slur. i feel sorry for all of you for being taught that simple everyday words are racial. it's just stupid. and even more so that Keith feels the need to change any part of his sight because some one may get pissed off by one simple word.
