Well, staff must see it as a problem if they're creating so many uses for it when the easier thing would be to delete them all? Yeah, that's not putting things into proportion at all.
4k may not seem like a lot, but to a hoarder selling thousands, it's a crap ton. I would know. I sold thousands to earn millions. Easiest millions ever. If that's not encouraging hoarding, I don't know what is.
Yeah, when free beer came out for the first time, some people had the idea to hoard it in case the Recycle Beast ever asked for it. The forum group # DRB was created for that day, too. A few months after that, the RB -did- ask for them, LOTS of people turned their entire hoards in, the site crashed on and off for the whole day. Still, it didn't seem like a glitch because it wasn't addressed as such by staff at any point, not on that day, not after that.
Some time later, the cruise happened and the brewery opened again, -still- with unlimited beer available. Since it did get requested once by the Beast, I can only imagine everyone went there and hoarded for a potential next time? That was also not a glitch and it was not an abuse in the sense that free beer was intentionally unlimited, actually for at least a day or two if I recall correctly.
As far as I know, RB only happened once, but we have no idea if it could happen again. As much extra code as it might require, 's idea is interesting, except I know many people wouldn't give them up if they knew it could be requested for recycling again. :/ 1 RP is still worth way more than 50 sp.
Thinking about this again, this topic probably wouldn't be happening if new uses hadn't been made (or if the brewery hadn't opened that second time), but it's pointless to argue that now.
I wish the feature could still be available for other users, so I'm fine with whatever gets done. Even if I'd still be fine with deleting (mines) if it permanently solved the issue, it's a tough call to push that on everyone else who isn't (for very valid reasons, like paying for them). Tbh I see how having 5 million of a not-so-useful item can be inconvenient for staff, but idk. If people want to sit on a million beers because they love it, I'm personally ok with that. Just try to sink them without adding more value to them? I feel this was the gist of 's idea.
This being said, I'm at a loss for better suggestions if we're talking about removing the beer, everything I can think of has major downsides. Maybe let the RB ask for it again.
Yes, staff posted on pages 3-5 that they are not giving more out for free:
And that this was their mistake, AND that they are getting rid of them by adding features that will get them out of circulation:
And that the current 4k price is nothing to be so worked up about:
A few days later there&;s an achievement for having x amount of quest points.
That was requested by users, along with some other achievements we released during the Anniversary. :)
Like Keith said, we learned from our mistake about how long an item stays out (free at that) etc. When we have 5 million of an item on site, we aren't going to release more. We are using free beer for things so that they have some use rather than rotting away in peoples vaults because we really don't need 5 million of one item having no use other than feed to a pet. Just searching free beer right now shows a shop selling 10,803 of them for 4,000 sP. It's not exactly free but it's pretty darn close!
I'm sure the price will drop again (it does that) once the excitement of the genetech combo passes and once Alegarten is over (and you can't feed Gunter drinks anymore).
AND that they don't delete items in these situations:
So while staff does see it as a problem, they also clearly do not see it as the OMG HUGE ISSUE that some people are trying to make it out to be. They probably should have locked this back on page 5 😝
Okay, quoting posts I'm aware of doesn't really change anything? Staff's done things they've never done before and they've changed their minds on things they've said, so I don't see why any of our feedback shouldn't be posted. If staff doesn't see a problem with awarding hoarders with possibly millions of sp or thousands of rb points and saying "we discourage hoarding" then I don't know what else to say, because those actions are far removed from those words.
And that's why I said make it clear that free beer won't ever be asked by the recycle beast (simply change the rarity to something that doesn't get asked by the rb would fix that once and for all, no?).
If you are aware of what they said just days ago and still want to try to convince them to do things that they are saying they won't do.... have fun, I guess!
Yeah, if I was -absolutely sure- it wouldn't be recyclable ever again (nor fraggable, which it has never been) and there wouldn't be any further new uses, I'd probably just do giveaways with the beer I still have, haha. I personally never intended to get any sP from them, it was always only because of the beast.
It's a cold, hard fact of Subeta that hoarding pays. They would have to restructure a lot of elements of the site for that not to be the case - I'm not sure it's even possible to have the site without hoarding being beneficial in some way.
It's all very well for the staff to tutt over users hoarding, but they essentially keep giving us reasons to. That recycling points achievement! You want me to amass how many points? It's not even cumulative and they've upped the highest tier for it twice in the last two years. I get that it's not supposed to be easy, but why would I not still squirrel away items to make it easier?
I have my own little hoard of free beers, and I too am waiting for the day I can exchange them for recycling points. Making them valueless and non-exchangeable won't make a difference to me; I might move them to to a different section of my vault, but I won't bother further if there's nothing I can get out of it.
Why not just put it on the exclude from RB list and never let it be recycled again? I mean I got sick of waiting for it to pop up and it was fucking with my account worth so I deleted my what, 80k free beers?

You mean like they have to for quest items? Actually most quest items are more expensive than that.
Seriously I just don't understand why people are making such a big deal out of this pixelissue.
Yeah, I don't really agree with that argument. Older users of any game are always going to have advantages from playing longer than newer users. This will sometimes mean having to pay for items that were free (whether it be from events like this, free gifts, newsletters, or plot prizes) that aren't available anymore. This isn't new. It doesn't really matter that it was free to start with.
