We bought up elixirs from user shops when they were revalued ;) Nothing was deleted. We've never actually deleted items from user accounts except for the time godlies went out from the free shop.

And? If what Andrea says happens, all the free beer is deleted and you could only get 1 free one a day from then on out, so? I imagine that if it did happen there would be fair warning in case people have neglected to give Gunter 250 beers or whatever, then they could get that out of the way first but I really see no point in have that much free beer around. If they deleted all the free beers on site then there would be no need to create additional uses/achievements for them so no need worry about that. If they made it so you could only get one a day, so? If having a hoard of three thousand beer means that much to someone then they can hoard it again, can they not?
Deleting the free beers from the site will screw up major drills, achievements and the genetech combo while none of these things are screwed up right now. You have to pay 4K for an item. That's not exorbitant. Why do we have to change everything because something is no longer worthless? Or is actually less worthless than it used to be.
I agree with Jessyta, you are being RIDICULOUS. Rename the old item to "Sample of Beer" and release a new Free Beer item if you really want to.
I remember that one glitched minion that was duplicated from the advent calendar a couple years around. The Bree? Blee? Some kind of minion. I personally deleted so many when I was a UA I don't want to see one again
I'd be really pissed if they were deleted. I did not use an auto-refresher to get the over 35k beers I had. I sat here and actually refreshed on the page every few seconds and pulled loads out of the DC. As to why I hoarded them, the lolz and because I had hoped to recycle them one day and I did. I have under 2k now.
The Recycle Beast is the number one reason I hoard large amounts of an item. The only item I probably will never recycle is the White Snow Fairy as that is special to me. I think I've seen it asked for 2-3 times before.

Maybe we should ask the Daleks what we should do with the free beer on site...
the subetan temperance movement rears its head

i have to admit, i do think it's kind of shitty that users can now make massive profit off formerly free items obtained in dubious quantities. would users keep their free beer hoards if we were not longer allowed to sell that one particular item in user shops, ala BC eggs? think about it for a minute.
of course that would necessitate a removal of the free beer activity from major drills, but i would hardly call that site-breaking. in its stead, bring in some drunkard NPC who pays a 50 sp flat rate for every free beer you turn in (deliverable in high quantities at once, ala recycle beast. because lets be real, no one is going to turn in 1000+ of any item one at a time). i think a choice between "hold onto thousands of a suddenly worthless item indefinitely" and "cash beer into a sink for slightly less than nothing" is a pretty clear one.
oh and keep them as recycle beast fodder. that's not hurting anybody.
There was also the time users were able to buy that tablet from the cash shop portion of Peka-Boo for free and the site went down and they got deleted, but that was a whole 'nother thing.

This is the best idea I've read about it yet. I love everything about it. But there's just one thing I wonder about, is the people who already have the free beer in their shops. Would this inability to sell the item automatically place every free beer that's in a shop into one's inventory because I think moving several thousand items into inventories at once would... Not be good?
'squeaks'
But... my... army.... no... nooooooo
collecting Paying 4,000sp for a Free Beer is fine with me, but I like the idea suggested WAY more. It seems fairer, it takes care of the problem of the number of Free Beers floating around faster, and then we can all stop talking about it. Perfect.
The only issue I see is the achievements/genetech combo, but I feel like allowing the combo to be created more than one way or being able to do the achievement with other types of beer items would make it fine. I'm sure somebody else has a cooler idea than that, but yeah.
yeah, an automatic removal from shops could cause some issues, especially when some of these are well past the 5-figure threshold. i'd say, reduce the price of any free beers currently in shops to 0 and make that a figure that the user isn't able to alter- it's permanently 0.
then the onus of moving beers in managable quantites is on the user in question. i just recently moved 40k+ items from my old gallery to my vault, so i know it can be done. items can be moved directly from shop to vault if we're talking about good old fashioned hoarders, or brought out into inventories a hundred or so at a time to cash out in my above proposed solution.
would it be a pain? yeah, absolutely. nobody likes spring cleaning, but sometimes, things just have to get done. especially with the proposed limits on shops/galleries that have been whispered about for a while now (which is why i moved my stuff- huge shops/galleries are hurting the site), i feel like the days of 70k beers in user shops are limited regardless of whatever else happens.
Honestly, I think has had the best idea. I can totally back that up.

that's what i thought too
Is it likely that the beers will come up in RB again? I thought that was not gonna happen, but I'd love a clarification on that...
I don't think altering how they work or deleting them is really a great solution either. Yes, we're in this less-than-ideal situation. But when it comes to it, autorefreshers are not against the rules, and that was a feature that we (stupidly) had available and was not a glitch. It was an oversight, but by our rules, all of those refreshed ones are still legitimate. Never again omg.
Deleting them is a bad idea, I'm sure I was not the only one who ended up buying thousands because I missed the majority of the refresh window. I bought around 30k of them from shops shortly after, when they were like 500sp each, because I knew one day I'd get to turn them into the recycle beast.
People still use them for treasure, as gifts, as food, and some people just want to have a ton of them--which isn't against any rules either. We're never going to be able to wipe them off site as much as we'd dream of, and I really doubt they'll ever be worth much. The prices will surge (is it really a surge when it goes from 1k to 4k?) during events like this, but we still have barely even made a dent. I just don't think limiting how they can be used is really a great solution either, especially since some people have spent money on them.
have they already become available once for the recycle beast?
I'm pretty sure they became available at least once :) I'm still wondering if it will ever happen again though. That's the only thing that'll make me give up my (small) hoard.
