I much prefer it on the news page. I'd rather have the little reminder instead of the sign blaring in my face all the time. Thanks for the move.
I think a monthly bar would work better, but I don't mind it either way.
I wish there was more of an explanation of what's really going on.
I've watched gaiaonline doom itself and that was painful. I've been on subeta for almost the same amount of time I've been on gaia, and I don't want to watch this place go down the same path.
The fact that it's a daily goal, and not a weekly goal or a monthly goal really makes me nervous. The fact that the little bar hasn't moved at all since I've looked at it doesn't help. It makes me think this site is circling the drain, and I don't really know how much of my money I want to keep giving into it if it's going to end up being a lost cause??
The placement didn't bother me, I don't think it's offensive. (???) It's not some strange concept to me that sites like this actually require money to function.
The lack of explanation along with 'this is what the site needs daily to continue running subeta' is what bothers me. How much of a goal is that? It just doesn't sit well with me for them to just throw up a bar with no numbers under it.
Edit: never mind maybe I should have waited for the news post.
For those who are finding the bar a worry (for whatever reason), you can remove it using customCSS:
.ui.progress {display:none!important;}
This will only remove the progress bar, not the entire section - I don't think it will remove any other progress bars across the site (doesn't affect the pet hunger / happiness ones at least), but I can't guarantee it :P
(doesn't work properly - ignore me)

Sorry the news post took longer to get up than the actual feature, we are apparently much slower writers than is a programmer. Hopefully the news answers some of the questions that were posed here, and people take the bar for what it is - a tracker of what you're already doing as supporters, and an indication on where we need to go to continue to grow and get better!
Any chance of getting actual figures on the bar?
It's one thing to know that you guys are about 3/4 of the way to your daily goal. It's another to know that you are $100 away.
That will absolutely remove other progress bars around the site :)

Oh rats :( Is there any way that progress bar could have a separate tag, so it's possible to remove it using customCSS (I know a few people who would probably benefit from having control over whether they can see it or not)?
....or am I just messing up the coding and missing the obvious? :P

There is absolutely a way to remove it, but I'm not giving it a separate tag. It's there for a reason ;)
Separately, thank you for the feedback everyone! We quickly realized that having it on the sidebar was way too much, and moved it to the news page. I still think that it's cool information for everyone to know (we're going to add the actual % in the next couple of minutes).

thanks - at least there is a way to remove it :)

Our two biggest expenses are payroll (paying all of the staff + taxes + medicare + unemployment insurance + all of that stuff) and then servers.

Oh, for sure. We chose daily for a lot of reasons. A few purchases can make the bar move pretty rapidly, there is always going to be progress, and it feels a lot better to see something full.
Weekly and monthly your single purchases would have almost no impact on the bar moving, and it's a lot less cool to see it in red for an entire middle-of-the-month week.
Daily is a good indicator, but like we said in the news post, there are going to be days when it's red and we totally know that / understand why that happens, and days when it shoots to 100% in the first few hours of the day.

QUICK. Pour money into an already broken/breaking website!
The only reason I did was because of the support for UGCs dropping in a couple days and I wanted a CSC stockpile for when/if Subeta's ever working right again.

So everyone should stop supporting the site and let it die?
I guess I don't understand how the site doing something that users specifically is a demand for money?
Medicare? Did you mean medical insurance? :)
Everyone, just take a deep breath and calm down.
Subeta's not going anywhere. The site is not in any trouble financially (according to , Subeta's financially stable). The site is not and will never be a pay-to-play; CSC purchasing is optional.
HOWEVER. Contributing money will help Subeta meet its overhead, as well as help pay staff, as it goes with any business.
Then you, and anyone else who so chooses to remain oblivious, have no one else to blame but yourself for your ignorance. If you don't participate in the community or in threads like 's when they crop up, then you have no ground to complain.
It's important for users, newbies especially, to recognize that Subeta is not like many other sites; staff cares about their userbase and are integral to our community.
Do we always agree on things that implemented or suggested? No. But do they take the time to listen and consider every user's opinion, comments and suggestions? Yes.
