Hahaha, nanotech can be applied to almost anything! Energy generation, food packaging, deodorant, concrete... If you can think of it, you can use nanomaterials for it! I think the word 'technology' is pretty misleading, since it's basically just a class of materials. And don't worry about asking questions! It's my research so I generally like talking about it! So nanoparticles have been known to be able to kill bacteria for quite some time, and some are already even being used in places like hospitals, for example embedded within bandages (this is pretty new though, not yet widespread). I'm essentially trying to add two things to it: one, I want to make a more efficient system, so one material can kill any bacteria it encounters (to answer your question, most of the time a good material will be able to kill most bacteria it comes into contact with, it's not specific like antibiotics); and secondly, I want to develop the system using 'green chemistry', which basically means without ecotoxic chemicals. So I'm using a whole bunch of different plant derivatives to form my material!
That's awesome! Subtitles save my life on a daily basis, thank u for your service. Wenn du auch üben willst, sag mir einfach Bescheid! Wir können zusammen auf Deutsch schreiben :)
LMAO I feel it though, I've pulled a few gray hairs... my joints ache for no reason....... Two days ago I woke up and one of my eyes was just completely red??? I was like, am I dying?????? But that's just being old I guess haha!
Haha, thank you! I think it's pretty cool too! And yeah, my project specifically is about developing nanomaterials that are inherently toxic, if that makes sense? So just by existing they are able to kill things like bacteria. The goal is to be able to address antibiotic resistant bacteria, by using this kind of material instead of antibiotics!
Yeah for sure! What are you doing for work? And yeah omg I feel so........... old
Me too :( I feel like Subeta is a pretty recent part of my life but holy shit, I made my account over 7 years ago.... I cry.
Wow, a job and a partner, how lovely!!! Very Adult (tm). Grad school has been pretty crazy tbh, like somehow exactly what I expected it to be and yet very different. I'm super busy and simultaneously have the most free schedule I've ever had, since it's so self directed ya know? I'm studying chemical engineering! Specifically doing research in new nanomaterial development, so that's pretty cool.
I'm doing all right!!! I'm in grad school now (I literally don't remember the last time we caught up so oof), it's been crazy busy but fun. What have you been up to? :)
