Let's see . . . Carnival Stand is the cheapest place for food, if you need it, and has some cheap books, too. Music shop also has the cheapest books, a better deal than the actual bookstore.

Always check the shop search before buying anything - sometimes an item is cheaper to get from another user than from an official Subeta shop (like the Chibi Potion!)

If you want to start training a pet for battling, know that it will take a LONG time, at least a year. There is a guide to battling here - https://subeta.net/games/battle/newbies.php To hurry up training, you can go to Jim at the Training Center in Riverside, or if you're lucky enough to get a Mage Amulet from Quentin's quest you can give it to the Mage and he might give you a tome that can boost you pet's stats. Shinwa can also hand out items that can boost a pet's stats, but she also sometimes gives duds. You certainly don't have to train a pet - you can just sell the stat boosters instead, and then buy whatever the battlers earn and want to sell. Usually there's plenty for all.

Doing quests every day and selling items that I don't need is the main way I make money - it's slow and steady but it works.

Be sure to visit the Bathhouse every single day - every 10 days you will earn a bit of csc (cash shop credits) which you can spend or save.

Check out the Subeta Discord - everyone there is nice (I'm there, same username as here) and if you ask nicely sometimes people will give out any extra Buddy Gold Accounts they have (like a Gold Account, but shorter lasting.) The link is here: https://discord.com/channels/546499639319199764/886693690997874718

The Gold Account - everyone wants one because of several things - you can have up to ten pets instead of five, and gain access to the Autopricer. The Autopricer will price the items in your shop automatically so you don't have to at the click of a button. You will also receive varies discounts around the site. If your Gold Account runs out (you have to get a new one once a month) then your ten pets are not taken away.

About pets - the current limit is 150, I believe. You get a special reward for every year that you are here, and one of those is an extra pet slot. You can also purchase pet slots in the Millionaire Center, and from the Cash Shop. They are also sometimes given out as prizes if we have an event.

Potions - they are found randomly around the site, or sometimes rarely given out as a reward from quests. For Bloodred pets, however, it's MUCH cheaper to get an elixir instead of a potion. For instead, if I wanted a Bloodred Ontra, the Bloodred Ontra Elixir is 80,000, while the Bloodred Potion is 780,000. This is the same for the basic colors like Dawn and Dusk. Bloodred is the only special potion that this works with - there aren't elixirs for Spectrum or Angelic.

That's all I can think of for now - if I remember more I'll comment later! Never be afraid to ask questions, either of me or on the forums or Discord - Subeta is a small site, and we're all friendly here!

Oh, and once you unlock the Omen Islands, put your pets into the Rathskeller Inn. It feeds them and plays with them for you. And when they leave, they get some stat points.

The pieces of the Omen Island treasure maps (and the regular pirate prize maps) are, unfortunately, found randomly. Here's the Omen Island ones - they're very cheap, I hope this helps!
