aaaa that's the trademark danganronpa feel - 'i'm so freaking hyped, even though i know that hope is dead and all that will live within my soul for the rest of the season is despair'. but you continue to watch/play/read it anyways, because like a trainwreck, it's impossible to look away. and you get a little bit of that junko-esque enjoyment from the despair, even if you don't want to admit it. i hope you get your wish!! i'm all for despair, a plague of it on everyone's house. i'm sure i will. ;u; it's getting harder and harder to put off watching it now lmao.

Yeah, I'll admit I haven't met too many other fans myself on Subeta, although I do think there's some re-interest sparked in the fandom recently due to the Danganronpa 3 anime at least! (Dang the latest episode released like yesterday-ish for the Future arc was fricking phenomenal... OVO)

I agree 100% about Komaeda being an absurdly complex character. Is there anything specific about his character that confuses you? He actually makes more sense to me than most of the other characters (which is fricking hilarious because apparently for most people it's the other way around; Komaeda has ALWAYS greatly resonated with me, though). And you're absolutely right about him having good intentions even if he ultimately ends up causing a lot issues; the source material actually backs it up / reinforces this idea a lot. He's basically not trying to be antagonistic; it's more of a combination of his luck cycles and his frontotemporal dementia + third stage lymphoma that people are finding "problematic." (Personally I don't think he can be faulted for his mental illness / disorder / medical state. That absolutely isn't his fault / he has no control over that.)

Personally I ended up making my fanpet for Komaeda a Graveyard Jollin, and the reason being because foxes in Japanese culture are often viewed as either extremely benevolent creatures, or really mischievous troublemakers (take the rather well-known kitsune, for example). Since Komaeda actually hits both of these notes on different levels ( i.e. having good intentions, as you've mentioned, and being ultimately on the side of Hope - which he views as "absolute good" + he often seems to be scheming / is incredibly intelligent and cunning, much like a fox ), I thought it was a good choice for him personally.

A keeto would also be a good choice for this reason. The Subetapedia article for the keeto even says "The keeto is a playful, mischievous creature ... The keeto has quite the reputation for being a trickster!" In aligning with your idea about it being more of an AU / post-SDR2 themed Komaeda, I think this line from the article matches that well - "There are some mysteries about the keeto that have yet to be solved, despite their popularity as pets. Although they are fully corporeal, they are surrounded by a strange, otherworldly aura, and they do have almost a spirit-like presence about them." As it implies more of a ghost / risen / re-awakened type idea.

The bhakoru, kora, and feli have left-hand/arm related damage, which could align with Komaeda's whole "chopped off his hand/arm and replaced it with Enoshima's" thing he has going on there. Which, if you're doing a post-SDR2 type thing, you'd have to take that somewhat into account given if he woke up from the Neo World Program, his body would be his real-world counterpart, the one with the actual malformations.

The antlephore, lain, and rreign have some stomach-related damage that could imply the spear object he was impaled with if you wanted to go that route instead. I think the escalade, manchu, serpenth, and telenine could fit him expression / etc. wise. It really boils down to what you're trying to focus on for the general theme of what you intend to do with your fanpet, or what you want to depict the most / best from the pets available. :0
