I am post modern I guess. I used to be right out there with the most radically liberal ideas but as time went by my perspective changed. I try not to find fault with everything anymore (still a HUGE task for me) but there are Powers at work here way beyond my abilities and I think that runs the world better than anything I can do (though I really would like to see us outgrow our inate violent tendencies; I work with children: so quick to kick and smack are they!). I still forget to ask myself “is this useful” (thought, comment etc)? I still have work; I am not done yet!
I try to be accepting of others in general.
Girls are not less important in Judaism than boys. That’s sad that it’s interpreted that way but I can see how people think that. Modesty is held really important and a girl standing in front of a crowd is not considered modest for her. 2 of the weddings we’ve had (one orthodox daughter in law, the other orthodox daughter) they wore opaque veils! It’s very uncomfortable for women who grow up in a modest environment to be gaped at, if you can imagine. We dress very modestly, we do things in groups of women but not mixed company so much.
There is a young woman at work who is Muslim. We hang out a lot during recess. Last week we were talking about stuff (when the convo gets serious, we use google translate!) and it dawned on her that our two religions are similar. I believe communication is the only way to bridge the chasm of misunderstanding.
I don’t use Facebook anymore either. Or j stagram or whatsapp, owned by FB.
that's a great job! I hope your friends don't badger you (I would! lol )
Yes, time does fly! My oldest grandson will be 13 soon. 13 year old boys have a ceremony in judaism called bar-mitzvah. It's a big deal. For the religious, the boy goes up read from the holy scriptures we have written in a special scroll called torah. It's pretty neat and after that he is allowed to participate in places where 'men' are required, in certain prayers. it's exciting for us. Maybe long ago they got married after that LOL
