I'm pretty sure that it's moths that, if you touch their wings, they won't be able to fly anymore cause of the oil from our hands ... But I've never heard of butterflies dying if you touch their wings .

SUBETA NEWS SPREADS LIES. Touching a butterfly's wings will not kill it you silly kids. Yeah if you are rough on them you can hurt it, but just TOUCHING them will not KILL it. I repair butterfly wings when I find ones that cant fly, which definitely involves touching, and they always fly away better off than they were. You just gotta be gentle and not pet them like they're a kitty

I touched a butterfly's wings by accident yesterday because it was all flying around my hand since I was wearing a bright red shirt and it apparently dug that color.
