most of these things are really cheap. the prices goes up whenever the recycle beast asks for them.

the trick is to buy loads and loads of items over time, to build up big hoards of items in your vault. then you just have to wait until the beast asks for your items.
and sometimes he don't. curses the thousands of plain pumpkins i used to have
