You think our lingo is crazy?

And bloomers came about back when it was considered practically a crime for a woman to show her legs; if I'm remembering correctly, bloomers were the first sort of pants/trousers that women wore, before they were allowed to actually start wearing pants.

Someone correct me if I'm wrong.

Todd: i'm english btw, not american...

bloomers as in pants/knickers/underwear...usually made of either cotton or silk...slightly baggy, legs long enough to reach your knees or just above...usually with a bit of lace or ribbon at the hem...
