Thank you Starfish. I hesitated a little about sharing so much, but thought that if it might bring things into perspective for even one person, then it's worth a shot. I've often pondered about what a different world it would be if everyone had to wear their issues and struggles emblazoned upon a t-shirt for all to see. Perhaps then we would all be just a little kinder to each other.

I have a terrible relationship with my father now too, all of my sisters do as well. Because of this, I tend to forget that this holiday is coming around. Even though, I don't have any distaste for this holiday because at one point in time, no matter how short, he was a good father to me and I know that there are a lot of good fathers out there too

December 31, 1969, 7:00 pm by Deleted User

Most of the sentiments and statements I've seen here are nice & heartwarming, especially remembering, for myself, this will be the last Father's Day I have with my father so will be sad next year. But not everyone is or has a father or father-figure, so for them it would be just like any other holiday that others celebrate but they don't. We don't all have to celebrate every holiday event.

Windsong, those are very true words and comforting as well, thank you. I was very fortunate and blessed with a loving father, far from perfect, but he tried and that's what matters to me. This day is difficult since he passed, and I can easily see how the holiday can stir raw emotions. I can't word it as well as you did, but you are right about how we choose to deal with our individual situations. Can't say I'm not a a little jealous of those who still have their dad around to spend today with... but thats only natural right? All in all, the day is what you make it. And yes, the items are really nice, thank you artists =)

I didn't grow up with my Father either, and while I do somewhat dread this holiday for the emotion it brings up, I will never feel hate for it. On a personal level, our first born son was stillborn at 39 weeks In December. Yet we still had a small celebration today, as my husband would have been a wonderful Father to him, and even though extremely bittersweet; I couldn't let the day go unacknowledged. Really, the only thing we can control about our lives is how we decide to feel about things...and it IS always a choice. A choice that will either bring us down or enhance our lives. I chose the latter. {{Hugs}} to those who need them today.

People are being really rude about this. When theirs a holiday I don't celebrate, I don't go telling everyone how they should make an anti-instertholidayhere- day.

On another note:

I got my dad some tools, a pizza cutter and a hand made card!

...I don't know. I have a /terrible/ relationship with my father. He hates me, and I'm full of contempt for him, and every time we speak, it usually ends up in an argument about how I'm wasting my life, time, money and intelligence to be an /art/ major, and how that's destined to fail.

My father has never been much of a dad to me, and there isn't really very much I want to celebrate about him.

I still managed to suck it up, and be happy for the people who do have the sort of relationship with their father that I never will. And I would feel so.. incredibly disrespectful even thinking about drawing a slanderous item towards fathers.

Not out of respect for my own, but out of respect for all of the amazing men who /did not/ fail their children, the way mine fails me. I don't think I could ever even imagine drawing a ";I hate my dad,"; item.

Don't like your dad? Me neither. Suck it up. You have every other day of the year to dislike him. Is it really so important that you want to turn a day of appreciation for other people... into something dirty and spiteful?

People have less problems celebrating Christmas or having Easter dinner than this. If you can take part in a holiday originally meant to be so seriously religious, surely you can /tolerate/ someone else being happy to have their dad.

As for those with deceased fathers - they do, also, still deserve to be celebrated. I thought about it, but didn't have any time. I didn't even know today was father's day until last friday, when the boss-lady told us that it was. I wish i had more time to draw something specifically relating to that, but i didn't. I do think that some of these items aren't wholly inappropriate, though, if your father has passed away.

And you don't really have to have a dad to celebrate Father's day. You can share the day with a grandpa or someone else's dad... or even just use it to celebrate all the males you appreciate in your life, or any sort of 'father' archetype.

Nice items, but still waiting for the black cats to show up in the Holiday Shop.

December 31, 1969, 7:00 pm by Deleted User

Nevermind. I guess I was just hoping for something... and I mean, not for people who hate their fathers, but for people who don't have one. Similar items to release on Mother's Day would be nice, too.

I don't know. I'm not trying to anger anybody, promote hate, be negative, etc. I just was wondering if maybe you could do something to acknowledge everyone else out there who can't celebrate this day. People who lost their fathers or never had one to begin with. It's a hard day for some people (Mother's Day, too) and I just thought we deserved something.

I didn't see anyone complain for people who didn't like their mothers or wish for 'i hate my mom' stuff, seriously. What's that saying, if you don't have anything nice to say don't say anything at all?

December 31, 1969, 7:00 pm by Nestly
User Avatar

Nestly: I'm surprised and disappointed in all the negativity towards this day. If there's something you dislike about a celebration, it's just nicer to keep it to yourself. No one else needs to hear that. And why would we ever release items to promote hate? Come on now. That's just low.

December 31, 1969, 7:00 pm by Deleted User

Maybe next year, you could release items for people that hate Father's Day? Mine hasn't been with me since before I was born and there is nothing I loathe more than this particular holiday. I would find it quite comforting if there were items that acknowledge people such as myself.
