The Pteri is plain and stubby, the Lain is elegant, with long feathers and actually looks capable of flight. Just because they are both birds, everyone's like "OMG NEOPETZ COPYER." xDD

o-0 The Pteri is a prehistoric bird, short, chubby, plain and not very feathery. The Lain is a large songbird with long, decorative feathers. Order than that they are both birds, there is very little to compare.

No one was physically comparing Lains to Pteris. We were saying the 2 sites have two birds now. Fester/Lenny-Lain/Pteri. It's an obvious comparison. To many it's just an ornate pteri. Sorry. This site is very original and the Lain just wasn't original to me. I agree with the person that said we should have a spider species.
Regarding the pet hoarding comment~ I fail to see how want more than 10/15 pets out of 61 species/1775 color combos is hoarding.

The Lain reminds me of a phoenix like bird with a short neck. But to be plain honest:

Pfft they look nothing like the Petri. I mean, you could always compared anything to something else and find similarities. I mean our planet is so big, diverse and unique we'll always find something like something else. 
I think the artist did a fabulous job! It's really beautiful. Now I know what my second pet will be. ^.^
After so many ppl refering to the Petri, I had to go look for myself since I couldn't remeber what they look like off the top of my head, OMG they look nothing alike and if it's the Faerie Petri that makes them think this the only thing that is even remotely similuar is the head feathers which aren't the same at all. In all the years playing neopets I was never tempted to adopt one but the Lain was a must have for me and I am not even a bird person. I am just dying to see this pet (Lain) with it's wings spread I think it will be even more stunning than it is now. Thanks again Illusion (hugs)

i agree slightly in the fact that it vaguely resemmbles a Pteri but there are also alot of differences.If i had to chose between the two i would pick the Lain hands down!

It wasn't inspired by any Pteri, just to be clear. It was inspired by -real- small birds. There are, really, only so many ways to pose a bird - it's going to unintentionally resemble something.
I agree that it does resemble a Pteri... check out the pose of the Darigan Pteri, or the overall look of the Faerie Pteri (not the new style, the old style). Even the Pteri's new pose resembles the Lain.
But I don't see how this is a problem. It's still a beautiful pet, and it's still very well-drawn. If it was inspired by another source, who cares?

I've been reading this over and I don't really think the Lain looks like a Pteri OR my bird pet idea:
My bird was based loosely off of a bird of paradise, hence the wing placement and larger beak. The Lain has a much smaller beak. My bird has 2 long tail feathers with jewels set in them, the Lain does not have this. There are also many other differences, not to mention the Lain is drawn a million times better than my bird. xD I think it's really beautiful and I got one right away. =D

The peacock-like tail, body shape, beak shape, two front talons, even the head ruffles and antennes, the faerie pteri has it all.
I'm not saying this is a bad pet, I really love it, we do need more bird based pets anyways. But this is just too similar to Neo.

Also, all birds have basic shapes, all birds of prey have one shape, all songbirds another, etc. Besides, a Pteri has a dinosaur tail. e.e And bad graphics. I'm ashamed you're even comparing the two.

I honestly don't see how this looks like a pteri at all. I guess it could look like a faerie one if you were really trying to look for a remsemblance, because of the intricate feathers and such, but a pteri really wasn't the first thing that came to mind when I saw this.
If this is a pteri, I'm a porcupine. xD
Oh my. It's a bird. A -gorgeous- bird. The Fester's aren't alone anymore, and I'm a big fan of those, was really hoping for another bird. I'm getting at least one. 
And. Pet limit at twenty would be love, and I might even stay on Subeta after the recode for that.

The only thing I see that is remotely pteri-like is the shape of the head. But unless you want another Fester, I doubt that there's much else you can do to make it look different. realised she just contradicted herself sorry, I'm tired ;-;

It is /nothing/ like the pteri, you guys, unless you o fishy the fact they're both birds, seriously. All birds are a little similar, but unique, and these are WAY different from the stupid pteri, which is just a bird, while these have amazingly decorated feathers, long, elegant bodies...... Wow, I love these. I have an elixir for one, but I need to think of a name first. :3
