Dunder/Donder was the original name, but somehow evolved to Donner over the years. I think the song 'Rudolph the Red Nosed Reindeer' (recorded by Gene Autry) was one of the first times the change was introduced to the masses. (Although there were some written works before the song that also had the name as Donner.) I guess anyone who is familiar with the song (and the cute little Rudolph Christmas movie) will forever know 'Donder' as 'Donner'.

All of the reindeer are actually female, in the real world anyways. Male reindeer horns shed and peel off during the winter, they rub them off on trees and such, and the only deer that keep these are the females. x)
But it's just a child's tale. ;o
