I have to say that I graduated with honors, and I missed a trivia due to the whole "no article" thing... Unfortunately, many of us who learned such things in school have forgotten them... But we need to move on and make sure that we don't make the same mistakes...

December 31, 1969, 7:00 pm by Deleted User

If someone doesn't know what an article is, then they should look it up. It's no one's fault but their own.
Anyway, this new trivia was actually pretty easy, which is good since I want that prize.

Uhm.. At the people whining about not knowing what an article is.. Many people post what "No Article" means in the news comments each time.

Why would you answer if you didn't know what the question meant fully?

Even though English is my second language, I know what an article is. That's about the first thing you learn about grammar in the English language.

December 31, 1969, 7:00 pm by Andreea
User Avatar

I'm wondering how people don't know what article means, hello it's only one of the firsts lessons when learning any language on Earth. Furthermore several people always explain what it means in the comments when such trivias are posted. If you have no such grammar knowledge then to bad because this is an english site. I too had to learn from my mistakes since english is not my first language and so will you.

If you don't understand the part of the question telling you how to state the answer, then you DON'T know the answer. Would you ignore bits of questions on an exam paper?

Yes I would as in exams, they may be able to read you a word, but they aren't allowed to tell you what it means. Also you get point in exams for saying roughly what the answer is.

If you ever don't quite understand a Trivia question, ask DebiLee. If she is able to help without giving the answer away, or giving a huge hint, then she will do all she can to help you - as will others on the comments page. You will not be told off for being new and not knowing how things work.

December 31, 1969, 7:00 pm by Deleted User

Okay - Subeta and debiLee have been using the No Article format on trivias as far back as I can remember and I've been here for two years. So I've seen my share of hard/easy questions. so what if you didn't get it right - thats not anyone elses fault but your own.

And various other players have explained what the No Article format means on Several occasions.

Geez, just live up to the fact that you got it wrong because you just didn't pay attention.

I speak Dutch and I understand what "No article" means without a problem. Also, the "No article" doesn't necessarily mean "One word".
For example: if you would find "the big apple" as your answer, with format "no article" that would make the answer "big apple". If the format would say "two words", that could again raise confusion whether they mean "the apple" or "big apple" as the answer.
Putting "no article" is as clear as they can possibly make it...

o.0 Article would be a, an, and the in english. As in french it'd be un, une, le, la and les. It's one of the parts of speech, like nouns, verbs, pronouns, adjectives...

I kinda figure that would make it not an american phrase... but maybe other languages don't have parts of speech or something...

December 31, 1969, 7:00 pm by Malabui

Because people know what the answer is and don't know what 'No article' means.

Is 'No article' an American phrase? I assume it is as most people don't understand it and how are people who are struggling with the basics of the English Language going to understand that an Article doesn't always refer to a item in a newspaper? Everyone would understand the concept of 'One word'.

December 31, 1969, 7:00 pm by Jenflower

Why on earth would anyone submit an answer without understanding what "Format: No article" means. Seriously. The format is telling you that you need to put your answer a certain way or else you will get it wrong. It's not a suggestion, people, it's a required format. So why do you even submit an answer without completely understand what the format requirement even means? That makes no sense at all.

I hate it when they say "No format" When there should be one. I mean, come on. A lot of people might think the krypts, and some might think krypts. I think it is so messed up. I got it right and everything, but I got past trivias wrong because of that...
