Another of Subeta's spookier denizens, the ghostly, has been revamped and is now available in marsh and nuclear!

Hrm.... Ghostlies were never my favourites, and this haven't helped change my opinion... The neck-cloth rather bothers me, it doesn't seem Ghostly-like. They used to seem playful, sort of, now now they seem more jerk-ish. I thought of the ghostly as simple, and the over-job on shading has killed that thought..... The bones are to thick and the skull on its head is to big.
I mean, its very well-drawn and I applaud the artist's good job, but it isn't a good Ghostly, which matters more.
It's been made quite clear that it's all about the numbers here and quantity means more than quality... so as long as we're basing things on numbers, having 1/3 of the site's voting population so displeased with a revamp is still a pretty significant number. Especially considering how many of the 2/3 that voted for it either 1) just voted yes because the new option was on top, and it was new, or 2) voted yes while expecting further improvements to be made as they have been in previous revamps. A proposed revamp with THAT much discontent surrounding it deserves a second try. Who's to say that the people who were so quick to adore the first proposal wouldn't love a second, improved proposal just as much or more?
The Nuclear one is AWESOME! xD
The poll was weighted nearly 3 to 1 in favor of the new ghostly. Again, while there was further criticism to it, we made the changes we felt necessary. While we appreciate your input, we are under no obligation to use any of your suggestions when a poll is so obviously weighted to one side or another. We certainly are not obligated to use all of your suggestions either. We poll you to see if you like a revamp. Based on the results, the majority did.
We look at critique and try to see if what users are suggesting is personal preference or inconsistencies with the species. For the Creative Department, we viewed these critiques as personal preference and determined that the new ghostly looked updated, fresh, and yet still like a ghostly. I'm sorry to those of you who feel unheeded. This is how we have to do things though.
I agree with ico. There was a LOT of criticism over this revamp, more than usual, and it looks like none of it even mattered.
It's really bad. Just really really bad.
Please pardon the harshness of my criticism, but the Ghostlies do not look like they have been "revamped" since the last proposed revamp at ALL. This is very displeasing; more-so that it seems everyone's comments from the previous revamp have been ignored than that I personally do not like it.
I appreciate the hard work that went into each art piece, but it will be hard to lose the fervor with which I was first smitten with and continually adored the original Ghostly.
I like this revamp. Now to get a damned gold account medal so I can get one. C:
xD I love the Nuclear ones tongue!
I'm loving the Nuclear one! So cool!
Great revamp
revamped?! NOOOOOOOO well, mine hasn't changed yet and if it does, i'll turn it chibi. the new ghostly sucks.
Greeeeeat job! They look really really cool!
Marsh is cool, but Nuclear is AMAZING. Great job! =D
well, thank goodness my graveyard and chibi ghostlies haven't changed, else I would have to make them a different species.
I like the marsh one but not the other one
Not my favorite type of pet anyway, but the new versions look MUCH better! Good job artists!
I like this. And yes, this is coming from someone who complained about the last version. They /did/ change it. A lot, actually. If you aren't happy with it, then I'm sorry, but the artists can't please everyone. That is, physically and theoretically, impossible. It's not like there's a conspiracy to make the art on the site horrible so no one will like it. There would be no point in doing that, as it would deter new and old users alike. And I'm pretty sure that's not the aim of the artists. They're just trying to update the art of the site to a new style. Of /course/ not everyone will like said new style. But, like I said: impossible to please everyone.
What a classy jabot it has. I approve.
I love the new look! Great job!
Jeter, was that really neccesary?
I think they're great.
Kudos to the artist.
I am going to really miss how the old one looked like it was actually flying.
You know... because it's a Subeta-ghosts... and ghosts fly...
They look amazing. I'm looking forward to the chibi, but I hope it keeps its pose. I like how it's trying to hide the axe behind its back.
Meh,they're okay...
siiiigh
I obviously don't mean any offense to the artists who no-doubt worked incredibly hard on this, but.. NOOOOOOOOOOOO. Dx
I /adored/ the old Ghostly, as everyone knows, and I've been hoping against hope that this revamp wouldn't go through, I by far prefer the old one.
Someone probably mentioned this already but the nuclear radiation symbol on the nuclear ghostly's head is off-center quite a bit. Unless it was intentional, or not meant to be the symbol.
Wonderful. I love the Nuclear's tounge.
I think the new design is quite cute 8D Fits nicely with a lot of the other revamps in terms of detailing and whatnot~
...Now I want one xD;
Yeah, their good, I haven't really see bad art here, but still, every time I look at the new pose I have to double take to realize its not a feather duster. At least for me, when I'm looking at it I see a cloth/feather duster with a white handle, then I have to look at it a different way to see a ghostly. XP
Nuclear is prettyful, and I just noticed it's tounge is blue! Coooooooooooooooooooooool!
:| the 'body' still has too detailed shading for how the 'clothing' border on bottom goes... it - simply - looks - weird! TT_TT better ignores jabot completely :c
I dislike them both.
The jabot was a design change and all further ghostlies will be consistent with this new design. This isn't the first pet to have a minor design change, nor is it the last.
Again, while we appreciate your input, we are under no obligation to use any or every one of your suggestions when a poll is so obviously weighted to one side or another. We poll you. We ask for your opinions and suggestions. We consider them. Sometimes we use them, sometimes we decide not to. I am sorry.
And if the original artist DID draw the jabot-less Chibi? Or if whoever did draw it and the Graveyard worked closely enough with the original artist to know what it was meant to be? Would that be enough indication as to the original intent? Being here for 2.5 years will make you think about these things. Either way, calling people idiots and treating them like children worrying their "pretty little heads" off, especially when you don't know the original artist's intent either, is quite uncalled for. (By the way, I'm an artist as well, so assuming I know nothing of what I speak is no better than what you accuse me of.)
EW!It`s UGLY!I like the old one SOOOOOOOOOOO much better!
Dam! that is so cool! i love the nuclear ghost
As an artist myself, I dislike it when people make assumptions about what something is. You don't know for sure that the original artist didn't intend for the "neck" to be a "jabot" or vice versa. And the design seems inconsistent anyway; on some of the old colors, it looks more like a cloth and on the others it looks more like a neck. But I wouldn't worry your pretty little head; colors like graveyard and chibi that have to be completely redrawn due to differing poses probably won't be changed for a while.
Oh, wow, I will say this. BRILLIANT job. The faces have so much more shape to them, actually looking like a face instead of a circular frame. No offence to the origional, of course! I've always thought the hands looked a bit off, but other then that I'm very pleased with the work of the artist. Very nice job ^^ And I am patiently awaiting the revamp of the Spectrum version - I'm sure Tik would look amazing in the style the ghostly are.
What ARE the things around their necks? Beards? Cloth? Ah well - leave it to the imagination.
A little off topic, but might I suggest a Lasirus revamp? They look great, but being a bat fanatic (fruit bats have been my favorite animals since I was about 12) I'd have to say the wings look off.
But enough of my ramblings, I just have too much time, heheh... I'm off to see what work you did with the other colors of the Ghostly - Happy Halloween and whatnot!
I really prefer this ghostly to the old old one. The skull on it's head and the jabot and everything. It just looks cooler. 8D
I don't see any assumptions; I see the Chibi and Graveyard versions, which have both been around since looooong before the recent revamp mania and are clearly not wearing jabots.
And Thanatoast, calling people idiots just for stating an opinion is a little uncalled for.
Good job being presumptuous idiots. thumbs up
Everyone seems to assume they know everything about everything on the Ghostly
. Now, if only the original artist could tell us what is what.
The skull is still huge on this one, but it wasn't like I was even able to tell what it as on the old version either. Over all, it's a much bigger improvement.
I'm confused with this one. I love the ghostly, but is the cross thing supposed to be it's eyes? And what's the patch on it's head?
Wow, these look beautiful! =]
ILOVEYOUNK.
They're gorgeous w
Jacket, that's the whole point - it didn't NEED much done to it. It was a simple, cute ghost; now it's more complex than it needs to be, with pirate cliches and tree bark shading mixed in. The art quality is fine, but the essence of the pet is lost.
Oh wow, the Nuclear one is awesome. XD Flourescent tongue!
I love this revamp, the ghostly looks MUCH better! ^^
Guys, try and remember that what NK was working with was:
A face with nothing except a mouth to give any hint at expression, and some cloth.
Given that, I think she did a WONDERFUL job.
No, I don't have a Ghostly. Never have. Never wanted one, and still don't. Mainly because they're not very appealing to me (though I've admitted to liking the Graveyard, Spectrum and Chibi versions).
But be a little more understanding. There's only so much that could've been done with the Ghostly.
I didn't like 'em before, and i still don't like em now! v.v
...Were ANY of the criticisms heeded at all? Sure doesn't look like it. Yes, the thing under the head on the original WAS part of the neck/head where it was attached to the body. It was not a jabot. And it still looks more like it's standing than floating, the skull and crossbones still look awkward, it's still overshaded... yet another disappointment.
Thank you for the clarification, Luxe. =)
