Poor Iguanas so few adults, to tell thr truth we probably have a better chance of saving the cheetah rather than the poor little blue iguanas we have here, so very sad

What a wonderful idea! Well drawn and even better thought out. It's an important thing to raise the awareness for endangered animals. Thanks!

I love the boost for the endangered species list--I think many of us have a 'special place' for one or more threatened beastie. One of mine personal ones is the Snow Leopard. But they all deserve help.

I've got to say that this gift makes me teary-eyed. Having lived in Grand Cayman and volunteered with the recovery effort for 10 years -- sharing the triumphs and tribulations that these guys have faced -- watching the hatchlings being born in the breeding program and watching the few that make it thrive... this is truly a wonderful gift and truly an awesome tribute. Thank you very, very much for this. The Iguanas thank you, too [':

The Blue Iguana Recovery Program is evidently at least making some strides toward affecting a comeback.

Can not subeta do some deal with an animal charity, so that people can 'buy' the animal (through the cash shop) and a donation goes to helping them?

...another major problem with cheetahs is the fact that with their numbers so low... inbreeding is quickly taking its toll, rending males infertile and offspring often die with birth defects... ...if there's really so few blue iguanas, then there's little hope of a species recovery... there's simply not enough genetic diversity to keep the species healthy... sad, sad story... Speaking of conservation, an excellent piece to read is 'I am Orangeband.' ..I can never remember the author's name, but you can google it... it's a touching essay on extinction... really hits home...

Didn't Arbor do a fantastic job with it? It looks so much like the real life one. ^^

Oh... -nods a bit- Either way, though, the lion wouldn't be able to do anything. Like albino crocodiles. x: Poor things think they're camouflaged and starve using the tactics to hunt and hide their minds tell them to use.

The real blue iguana:

huggles poor cheetahs Asiatic Cheetah is so endangered .... http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Acinonyx_jubatus_venaticus

December 31, 1969, 7:00 pm by Deleted User

They are only albino if their eyes are red and they lack any pigment - showing only pale tones of red and white.

December 31, 1969, 7:00 pm by Templar

Aren't white lions technically albino? Like white tigers- a genetic mutation that turned out looking quite beautiful, despite leading to many illnesses for the animal?

Well, a lion being white is a genetic trait, obviously it wouldn't survive in the wild since it can't camoflauge, but it can be breed and reproduced...

;~; What a horrible lot for them ....

December 31, 1969, 7:00 pm by Deleted User

However, my heart goes out to those poor lizards ... only how many adults? that makes them functionally extinct ;~; huggles

Sadly no ammount of conservation will save cheetahs in the wild, since even if all hunting of them were to stop, they would die out on their own since they can't compete with the other local predators for prey...

It's a one time thing; hopefully people might become more aware of the plight of endangered species and possibly even try to do things to help out. (I saw some really cute Christmas cards while I was browsing there that I'm going to get to send to people this year ).

Wow.... To quote the interwebs; 'The Blue iguana (Cyclura lewisi) is a critically endangered animal that lives on the island of Grand Cayman. It is currently estimated that only a mere 25 animals still survive; the wild population is expected to be extinct within the first decade of the twenty-first century. The animals' demise is mainly driven by human pets (cats and dogs) and indirectly by the destruction of their natural habitat as fruit farms are converted to cattle grazing. Since 2004, 219 captive-bred iguanas have been released into a preserve on Grand Cayman run by a partnership headed by the Durrell Wildlife Conservation Trust, in an attempt to save the critically endangered species. Some success with naturally-laid eggs has been reported.'
