I could not for the life of me judge how much to spend on those quests and ended up losing about 20k on them. Especially the one item quests that cost about 2-3k and only receiving about 100-200 sp for them... Gr.

Keith tweaking the script seemed to help a lot.
While Alexander is still asking for (but not usually getting, I imagine) really expensive books, many of his quests are a bit more affordable, and his rewards have vastly improved. I still miss the 1 book old quests, because then I knew exactly what I was risking, based on rarities.
Right now, I only do the ones that seem cheap, or at least reasonable - which is about half the time - and the rewards have been pretty good. But then again, I'm a notorious hoarder of books and other rare items from my past questing days, so maybe some only seemed cheap enough to me when I looked in my Vault and found that I had 5 or 6 of them, instead of spending 20k or 30k buying them!

he asked for Geometry Book whick is like 1000 sp and gave me like7500 and a Dark Matter Malticorn Plushie he might ask for expansive stuff like 13/15 of the time but when you do get it he gives good prises.

Personaly, I've had a lot of luck with this quest, I made a 20K profit. Just need ot look around a lot, check the main shop sometimes before quiting.

well, you are just lucky, i could only do 1 of the quest, and i pay 555 sp, and the otter gave me 119 and a regular flower pot, sob sob
and i finished in less than 1 minute
but the otter is cute
I made about a 20k profit after all 20 quests, and that does not count the items I received.

Hmm, he's asking for some high-rarity books, and only giving out 'normal' rarity items. Sometimes he asks for cheap books though, so you're pretty much promised a small profit if you go for those quests. 
The only thing I worry about is that he asked me for the same books (4 different ones) on 3 seperate occasions each. I wonder if I should horde those?

The quests sound terrible... Soon none of the quests on the site will be decent. I'm lucky if I can do three Wizard quests a day, out of 30. :/

The otter's cuter, but the Quests are worse. He asks for extremely expensive books, 1 to 3 at a time. It's not a profitable Quest anymore. As an example, he gave me a Green Toothbrush and 2298 sP for a 33k book.
If this is a way to drive down the prices of higher-rarity books, it eventually will - because they won't be bought by us Library Questors and prices will slowly fall.
