How on earth are you people narrowing it down to one or two answers?? The only pattern I see narrows it down to, like... more than I feel like counting >.>; (no, I'm not fishing for answers or clues, just ranting )

Hmmm...Vince the Torrey and his Reddish House seemed to have disappeared. Is anything else about this trivia going to change? Because it doesn't seem like it's possible to come up with a definitive answer with the current information given. I've got it down to 2 different answers.

I understand some users are angry. But so are we. We don't like being this limited in what we can pick for trivias, but as Debi said before, this was a necessary step. And, as she also said, it's working as intended.

The trivias won't be changed back. The staff discussed this for a long time, even going so far as suggesting trivia be abolished, before deciding just to change it to this. A lot of thought went into this decision.

I got the last one right and traded my Hydrus Inhibitor today for 175,000 sP! It was a good guess...I got(still have) the Dowsing Pendulum and I knowticed it fit the poems description, so I put my answer in, and got it right...o.0

But this way fewer users are answering at all, so it still achieves the purpose. Last Trivia 3-4 times as many users lost as won, reversing the previous trend of 3/4 or more winning. And only fewer than half as many answered at all. So it's working as intended.

I didn't totally misunderstand. And I'll illiterate, this won't stop people from cheating. Far from it. It'll most likely, it'll increase it.

Prizes go up in price in a few months anyway. Like with most things. I always hung on to a prize until it was worth something then I traded it. It's a lot easier than some think.

But we won't have 2,000 people answer with 1,500 of them correct anymore, thus hopefully increasing the value of the prizes back to what they should be. The answer for the Super Soaker one had been posted multiple times; I bought 4th of July water guns for as low as 25sP each! There's not much fun in winning a practically worthless prize. Now hopefully that will no longer happen. Some of the prizes might still be under 10K, but 25sP was just crazy! And the note at the bottom was because we got complaints/questions about ex's non-searchable Trivia, to let everyone know why. This is what the Staff as a whole came up with and agreed to to cut back on the problem; the other choices were to suspend or to totally discontinue the Trivia. Moon and I put hours of time into trying to come up with fun, entertaining, at least mildly interesting questions the answers to which were readily searchable and a lot of couldn't even be bothered to make a minimal independent search effort. This isn't a business, it's just a virtual pet site. We're not "punishing" anyone; we simply chose a different style of question over suspension or total discontinuance.

Understandable, MoonFighter, but I have to wonder... wouldn't people be more likely to mooch answers on external forums and IMs and stuff the harder the trivia is? Perhaps giving people a tiny extra something to work with would encourage them to work it out themselves. Of course, there will still be cheaters... there's no way to stop them, really. Some fools will always find ways to exchange answers outside of Subeta. :

Noir, the cheating wasn't looking at google. You misunderstand. The cheating was that INSTEAD of looking at Google, users went and asked help forums on other websites, such as Yahoo.

Angel, they're supposed to be harder, especially for the first few times.

lol, I'm with Sparts on the tips/guidance idea... if all the trivias are going to be non-Google-able now, they're going to be a a lot harder for many of us to figure out. Sometimes that's a good thing, but I see no harm in one or two very subtle hints... or in the case of complex logic/mathematical/etc things, maybe a little guidance on how to get started working it out.

Of course, I am an idiot. XP

The only trivias I got right were googled and were from encyclopedias. I'm super ticked that people cheated and messed it up for everyone else. And I can't believe I forgot to answer the last one, I would've gotten it correct. I love the poem ones. X3

Wow, nice trivia but the disclaimer attached at the bottom sucks. Isn't it a cardinal rule of better discipline/customer service (for those with MBAs) to NOT attack the whole because of the ignorance of a few?

I don't see how using google is cheating but if people spill the answer, they spill the answer. Doesn't matter if the answer is strictly subeta related or not.
