I don't find the complaining weird at all.
In very broad general terms - obviously there's exceptions - but most people who play Subeta are nice and enjoy helping folks out. So a group effort battle is something that's right up their alley. People are allowed to be disappointed about a change they don't like without being told, "well you should be grateful we even have one!" What are you, my parents?
That said, I do understand that staff is a skeleton crew right now, and yes mom, I am grateful we got some gellies to fight. (No sarcasm, it was a legit nice surprise.) Even if I can't tackle the Big Bad One right now, I've still been able to participate more than the last war. Took down 5 Wizards for the first time, couldn't even touch one before. Stompers aren't an unreachable goal, and depending on when (if?) the next Gelly War happens, Sungod could very well be able to take on Hydragellos too. Alone, if he must :(
Still, yeah I agree, not having the global boss sucks, and being shut out of anything sucks, especially when you weren't before. But I understand why, and the bummer is only temporary, at least for me. I'm looking forward to the Morostide opponents coming up soonish (will this be the year Sungod can finally take on Nightlady? maybe maybe?). And even if that doesn't happen for some reason, later still in December is the last Friday the 13th of the year (how will Sungod do against tricksier Careaper? hopefully good enough if I've got his stats up enough by then). So...again, just me...I don't feel like it's the end of the world.
(By the way...forgive my bluntness, but I don't think "well, obviously you're not devoted enough to battling!" is such a hot take when some of the people you're talking to already have t13 pets and have been here for years. Just my opinion)
This challenger is difficult but fun. However, the community aspect of the global boss fight is FAR more fun. Hopefully that is something we go back to in the future.
My T13 got 50/150 on the Wizard, 5/15 on Stomper and 0 on this one. Maybe next year... or another 10 years. :(

Well this sucks. Good luck everyone. Last year my pet was t9 and I got the final prize by just throwing him at the boss. This year he is t13 and can't even put a scratch into him. GG
As mom of a toddler and a baby, I'm extremely grateful that we don't have to do cumulative damage this time! I just don't have that kind of time right now, but do have the resources to get 5 wins with my two battle pets (and maybe 5 with one since there are kind battlers lending weapons). I wouldn't mind having the other system again at one point, but this new system is super convenient for me.

I am on Subeta for 17 years now. I wonder, what makes you guess, I would be passive aggressive to the staff? I never was at any time. I really appreciate their effort and work they do on Subeta. I was never complaining about anything of their decisions. I just tried to tell you my point of view and you did not understand, if you think it is just the prizes. I just loved the way it was before and it gave people the feeling of community. Hydragellos now is too hard to beat alone for the most of us, even for the long time members with a t13 pet.
It is very nice of people to lend their weapons. But I see it in a similar was as you do.
Awh, this change is a bummer, especially since this was something I was looking forward to with having gotten my pet stronger to start dealing with stronger fights. Then trying to chip away and help in the fight, and not having any reward for it unlike prior years for what dmg you helped add
I respect your viewpoint but I've always preferred to have my own weapons in my armory that I could use anytime I wanted, or do other things with them such as wear them in the wardrobe. Borrowing a weapon to beat a challenger because you can't get the weapon you need due to needing to be a higher tier is very frustrating. But thank you for your advice, I think it's very solid and I have on occasion borrowed weapons in the past c:
I can’t say I fully agree with weapon/tier structure as a whole, but it’s not hard to find lends to help you build your armory when there is disparity – battle chat has a board just for requesting lends that are fulfilled nearly always.
How much man power do you think is available to redesign and code an entire rework of an event/battle feature? They just had to turn ads back on to support the site. Ideally there is a way to mesh the global feature with a method that doesn’t torch the site but that takes a lot of work that probably isn’t possible right now just going off of context. I would say in the current state of affairs we should be glad to be getting events at all. Just my opinion.
Yes training is a tremendous effort that takes place over many years with regular effort. One that frankly should be rewarded very well from time to time which to me is what this is. I’m not saying everyone has to dedicate the effort, but when that lack of dedication rears its head don’t be passive aggressive towards staff for not rewarding you. And there are still a lot of challengers and prizes that can be enjoyed by pets of all tiers.

Some people may do not have the time, to spend all day long on Subeta, training their pets . to get a t13 pet. I finally got one, and it needed a lot of time, work on Subeta and sp to make it there. Priorities can change over the years and not everyone is into battling from the start on. I am thankful, we still have the gelatins to battle, but it always was part of the fun, to battle them all together in the gelatin waves we got and getting those prices at the end of it. The fun was worth dealing with the lag all the way long that battling lasted. Your opinion might be different, but I am missing this time.
Is the damage at least cumulative? Like if I hit it with 1 pet, the next time I fight it will it already be missing that hp?
Considering the hell I've been through in the last week with the hurricane irl, being able to come back in time for the remainder of this gelatin war means a great deal to me.
I just want to say I am grateful that we got a Gelatin War at all, even though it had to have its format altered. I hope one day when the site is maybe more stable or something, we can return to the old format of the global boss, but for now, this is just as good! Better to have it somehow than nothing at all.
Because for the past several gelatin wars, people have had a chance of tackling the challenger and getting rewards b/c of the structure, and that was upshifted in difficulty a lot.
The people who are upset are upset because the goalposts were moved in a way that didn't affect the top percentage of battlers but affected everyone else, including people who would have had a shot by the old structuring of the war.
I refuse to believe that the only two options are "freeze out everyone who doesn't have a T13" and "Don't have the Hydragellos at all" and trying to pretend those are the only two options is downplaying the creativity and capability of staff.
My personal gripe isn't how this specific battle opponent is set up, it's how you need to be a T13 pet in order to get lower tier weapons. Like if there is a weapon option available for a Tier 9 pet, then that pet should be able get that weapon. What's the point of needing to be T13 in order to get say a T10 weapon that is very useful for T10 but has no use at higher tiers? I'm not saying the Hydragellos is this case but I feel like a T11 pet should have access to T11 weapons? I've had so much battle advice saying use Maniacal Slappy Hand/Essence when I can't get it on my own. This is the same problem with the USS, I had to pay for mine because the weapon was inaccessible at my tier.
All the complaining is kind of weird. Respectfully, if you have no chance of tackling this challenger why do you care? The rewards are nothing but weapons and battling accessories that can only be used by high tier pets. If you haven’t trained a pet into T13/stat cap by now after 20 years of Subeta, battling can’t be a big priority for you, so why do you deserve to beat war bosses and get war boss prizes? The global boss can’t happen unless you want the site to explode so the alternative to this would be nothing for anybody which sounds even less fun. And there are plenty of people in the battle community willing to lend the "billions of sp worth of unattainable items and scrolls" who have posted in forum and in the comments here myself included. All the passive aggressive whining that you think is a dig at staff just makes you look entitled and bratty – no shade.
Also for those struggling with Stomper, I've posted on the Gelly War Guide thread with my own pursuits to try and get 5 wins. Pet is high T11, just a few hundred points shy of T12 and less than 100 AP, but I managed to get 5 (6 now technically) wins without having any of the main 5 weapons that are in the main post (Hooks, Ether, Oracles Staff of Enlightenment, Sandreaver, Natasha)
I wish there was a chance for lower tiers to get some sort of reward for this. Like if the high T13 pets managed to "cut off chunks of the Hydragellos" for the lower tiers to take care of before they turned into Hydragelloses themselves? Like a chunk for T1 - T6, another for T7-T9, and another for T10-T12. And then maybe like top 3 in the first sector, top 5 in the 2nd and top 10 in the 3rd with the most cumulative damage done would get rewarded for it.
I have no idea if this is even possible but I figured we know how many of each opponent was fought already, why not add a way to track damage per opponent on the battle records page? Doesn't need to be a global boss, we could all fight these blobs over and over again by ourselves as a single opponent and just have a total cumulative to compare with the rest of the pets in that category.

I hope that someday the site will be able to support the "raid boss" mechanic that we used to enjoy together! As many others have said, I always really enjoyed the group participation and how it felt like even at my lower level I could still make a little difference. It was so fun to see the zillions of HP going down a bit at a time, and it was very rewarding to know that we had all worked together to defeat such a monstrous boss! Good luck to those of you with maxed out pets! Hope to fight alongside you again in the future :)

If we can't all work together to defeat him because it causes too much lag or whatever, I wish at least I could have several of my pets gang up on him at once, then I might have a chance lol
i'm only T12 with my best pet, and it kills me handily even with the most defensive strategies I have. I was hoping we'd be able to grind to still get the achievements for doing enough damage overall. Oh well, maybe someday.

I was able to get 3 wins on the stomper, but I can't get a fourth win. I'm able to do tje wizards, but definitely not the boss. I'm not even going to attempt. I have crappy weapons lol
My T13 couldn't even get 1 win. Gave up on Wizard, Stomper and now this guy. Seriously 75000 HPs? Wow.

If your pet is well into T13, you should be able to get wins with the right weapons and scrolls. I know that's not ideal; I much prefer the group effort. If you're T13 and you want to borrow any weapons or scrolls, feel free to reach out by mail. I want you to get wins.

Just for the record, I LOVE the staff. Absolutely no hate, no shade! I was just butthurt having spent so much time working towards the damage goal before it was cut, and then realizing I had quite literally wasted my time and effort. But yeah, I can't even beat this thing ONCE on my own
Yeah, it was mentioned by Keith that the global bosses are not good for the site as it is right now. Even though I was able to beat this challenger, I also liked the old way because it does give more people a chance to do something. I remember when my pet was lower tier but still able to get some cool stuff by just grinding away as much as I possibly could, so I definitely feel for those who want that chance too!
Hopefully with the Kumos project's new and better coding for the site, the global bosses could be possible again without the colossal amounts of lag.
