PIRATES? GELATINS? WHAT???

It looks like while the Freyalise Crew was out at sea, the ship got overrun by gelatin! Now docked, Captain Fishbreath Jacques would like your help throughout Keel Hauliday in defeating the annoying gelatins. The crew has more important things to do with their limited time on land, after all!

Spend the day defeating Mini Gelatins so Anabelle can open up the Freyalise Trading Company tomorrow. There will be news posts throughout the holiday when the harder and more annoying gelatins have been swept off board by Dirty Matty for you to fight.

This means the official start of Keel Hauliday will be tomorrow. This is when the shop will open for restocking and Carl will start giving out items. Don’t worry, quests will be reset when it all starts!

In the past, we've had limited amounts of each gelatins when released. That's not the case this year! Fight as much as you can when a gelatin is released, the crew would appreciate it. We've also added new tiers to the gelatin related battle achievements! All gelatins will be found in the Event Tab at the Battle Coliseum.

Ahhhh… jam alert! I’ve squished a whack of these wee beasties and as always it’s a messy job! These little guys do go faster that I expected- I jumped 4 tiers this evening alone battling on and off- 3 tiers to go! 🎉 So excited to see the extra tiers!

I tested that after I read your post and multiple pets do add to the totals for the achievements. Thanks for that! 😊

Wow, it must take a few years to get the mini achievement. I still need over 1K just to get to the next tier. Getting 3500 will take days of spending many hours every day sitting & clicking. Tired already. Not looking forward to the highly annoying useless pirate shop where I can never get anything. Wish there was a way to make it a bit easier to buy new items. I like that Pete gives pirate items.

In terms of accessibility, I spent several hours writing up a Gelly War opponent guide for all skill levels: Gelly War Guide + Help Thread!. At the very least, I hope it helps make battling less scary for new players. I kept budget constraints in mind, but we also have a weapon lending thread (:dmg:physical: Weapons - Borrowing & Lending :dmg:physical:) should anyone need to borrow anything as we get into the stronger opponents.

Like said, battling is accessible. It takes work and dedication, but anyone can start battling at any time. We even have an active battle channel on the Subeta Discord server where you can get advice from other users at any time of day :) The battling community is continuing to do all we can to break down the barriers to entry and I certainly hope this event encourages more people to get into battling as it so often has in previous years.

We've taken into consideration how gelatin wars have happened in the past and with the way we're releasing this time, it's similar to any sort of holiday challengers during an event. You don't have to rush to make sure you get wins in before others do and you'll have the entire holiday for battling. Tomorrow, when the holiday actually starts, you'll find out end dates and what not. :)

I'm afraid, the achievement means only a single Fancyful Box cry. With it coming as a surprise loot last time (mine holding crap on top), I was set for digging out additional time and going higher with more pets next time instead of only with a single one. There goes my dream of finally finding unavailable WL weapons.

Battling has always been accessible, anyone can start any time to train a battle pet. You need not know every little quirk of mechanic to get the job done. You don't even need the best stuff. You just have to show an interest to start, and be consistent and persistent. It's only inaccessible if you never try.

Excited that gelatins are back to beat.

I have concerns over the change for the hydragellos from a threshold of damage to hit (last war was 10m, reduced from 15m due to lag) to a set amount of wins in order to get prizes as evidenced by the new "beat hydragellos 5 times" achievement. Depending on how hydragellos is statted this is potentially making what was hard but achievable with lower tier pets (there were tier 11, 10, 9, and 8 pets who hit that threshold) into a hard stat check. I understand there are issues with site lag that arise from events like this, but I think making it occur at the same time as the other big refresh-a-thon on site (Keelhauliday) is not going to help out at all.

There are concerns about battling being inaccessible to newer players, and if this change ends up making the rewards from this fight more inaccessible than it was in previous years, I think that's going to run counter to the idea of making battling more accessible.

Love that there are no limits to how many you can battle this year! So much battling to do though lol

Also FYI for everyone, I'm pretty sure that you don't need to do all of the battles with one pet. So for the ones that have A LOT of battles needed for the achievement tiers, you can spread that around to multiple pets, if you have more than one that can beat that opponent multiple times.

Yes! Gelatin war is a special battle event that happens every now and again, usually every other year or so (it kinda depends how this new format goes).
