Luminaire: What is it?

It’s the jolliest time of the year, didn’t you know? Let’s unpack just what you can do during Luminaire.

Each day throughout the month, Melody will be giving out new treats. There are two achievements regarding Melody’s Cottage. If you visit every day through the 25th, you’ll receive an Essence of Melody, which is essential to making a Nostalgic Pet! If you make it every day of December, you’ll get the Melody Regular 2020 achievement. We haven’t added an item prize yet, but there will be one before the month finishes.

What would Luminaire be without a tree? Choose your 2020 tree and have fun decorating it. You can even add a backdrop to your tree! If the tree or ornaments aren’t showing up, clear your browser cache and try again. You can mass add all ornaments from your inventory to your ornament inventory here.

How do you get ornaments? You can donate sP to Melody after visiting her cottage for the day and receive an Old Box of Ornaments. When you open the box, you’ll find a random selection of ornaments. [I]If you are missing ornaments, please file a ticket.[/i]

Only want friends to leave your gifts under your tree or maybe no gifts at all? You can adjust your Luminaire gift settings here.

Throughout Luminaire, you can sign up for Mysterious Melody. Once you get a partner, you can send gifts. Remember it’s the thought that counts, not the sP amount. If you need to take a break or you’re going to bed for the night, you can send a message to your partner to let them know. <3

Go to your profile and edit it. Click "Add Section" and choose the "Profile" option. Make sure to click "Update Order" after you've decided where you want that section to live. :)

The only bad thing about mysterious melody is that sometimes the person expects you to be on all night. And receiving messages through items, is kind of hard to decipher, I have no clue what my MM was trying to tell me today.

Mysterious Melody is also per day, it expires at midnight. So you are not signed up for the whole month, or the same person each time. Lower commitment than it sounds, promise.

That's okay - it is not for everyone. I find Mysterious Melody is best to approach with a pure spirit of giving, since there's no guarantee that your partner will send anything at all; you can only control what you gift. If you're in it to get stuff, or struggle to not compare the values of what you gave versus received, 99% of the time you're gonna find it stressful and disappointing instead of enjoyable.

We used to have a separate Gift Exchange feature in the Arctic Frost, that you would've liked more I think - it was a feature where you can put an item in, and it would match you with someone else who put an item in of roughly the same value, and swap them. So then you had more of a guarantee to get a similar value to what you put in. (At least.. I think this is how it worked. It has been down for a few years - unfortunately, we had to take it down because someone found a way to use it to dupe items D: And the code was too gnarly to be fixed; we will need to rewrite it entirely. We do want to bring it back someday though - it was a fun feature.)

Do you have to know the names of the ornaments you're missing when you make the ticket? Until someone mentioned they were missing the toppers from melody last year I forgot I was supposed to have them too but they're gone. I don't know what else is.

Really, you can do it however you want . Some people send items throughout the day, some do it that rapid fire way. The messages are there to help if you want to send one (thank you, I'm going to bed, etc) but you don't have to use them. :)

Can I get some clarification abot Mysterious Melody? I'd love to take part in a secret santa type deal, but the description sort of implies o're meant to rapid-fire spam gifts at the other person and "let them know when o go offline", which sounds a little overwhelming to commit to all month.

Thank you for the info! I was working it out over time, but as someone who joined in the middle of the year, I was just thinking last night while mildly mystified by Melody's merriments that it was the first holiday that wasn't entirely straightforward. ^^;

When you are sending them an item, there's a dropdown menu at the bottom of the page where you can optionally select a message to send with your item!

I think it's really kind that you took the time to make this post for all the newer members.

This is my favorite holiday on Subeta and I hope everyone new here enjoys it. I remember my first Lumi was so much fun and opening up the gifts at the end was such a treat. And remember, it really isn't about the sP. If you've got the means to spend a lot, great! If you don't, small but thoughtful gifts are so wonderful to see. It doesn't matter how much you have, everyone can participate and be included - that's such an important part of Lumi. Seeing old faces taking the time to stop in just for Lumi, getting to know the new users that are experiencing their first Lumi, and seeing all the people posting on the Lumi forums that you don't normally get to see... It's all so special and unique only to Subeta.
