I'm so sorry if the bilby item has upset anyone! It's at least 10-12 years old and I was never good at item descriptions. As a kid we celebrated the Easter bilby, instead of bunny (I still love rabbits)

Even here in America feral cats are a huge problem in terms of wildlife conservation (they weren't native to this continent, either) which is why as much as I do love cats, I do not support people allowing their cats to roam outdoors.

It's just terrible for our birds and small wildlife.

People need to keep their cats inside, away from our songbirds and safe from common cat predators, such as the automobile, which probably kills more free-roaming cats than anything else in the environment.

This rant brought to you by my annoying neighbour who has attached a label to her cat's collar that says "stop calling me to say my cat is lost! he is allowed to go outside!" (I am probably responsible for this label.)

As an Australian who thinks rabbits are feral and non-domesticated ones need to be eradicated from the environment (along with other non-native invasive species).

I also live Easter Bilbies.. just think that the description of the item seems unexpected hostile.

You are correct! :D Rabbits were an introduced species, and became invasive, and killed many of our native plant life. So, yes...wild rabbits would be considered 'feral', but people still own them as pets now a days, keeping them in massive outdoor hutches.

You are also correct about the cats..pet cats are allowed to roam, and sometimes these pets mate with the wild feral cats, which leads to more feral cats..which leads to our native wildlife (mostly birds, though it depends on the area) being killed.

Various companies do the chocolate bilbies each year, some can get very fancy!

Not Aussie but I have an interest in Australian animals and am also one of those people that's obsessed with thylacines (Tasmanian tigers). So from what I've gathered on the topic, I think "feral" was probably a poor word choice, as that word just refers to any domesticated animal that doesn't live under human care.

The problem with rabbits in Australia as I understand it is that they are a very prolific invasive species that outbreeds small animals like bilbies and competes with them for resources; also, they can devastate farms and gardens. Do correct me if I'm wrong. I have also read that feral cats were initially encouraged in the hope that they would eat the rabbits, which backfired amazingly as feral cats are now a worse problem than rabbits over there.

I would love a chocolate bilby.

We need a wearable bilby. And a quokka. Also numbats because they are so freaking cute.

I also support revamping our Tasmanian devil and wallaby wearables to remove the avatar cutout, because I wanted to do a non-HA avatar with a wilderness background, a couple of my thylacines, and a devil and a wallaby, but then discovered that you can't use those animals without a person in the avatar.

(And actually I live in California, I just like Australian animals. Madagascan ones too, I just released a fossa.)
