It looks a little strange to me too, but I later realized that the left side (our left, not its left) is the "night" mode and it's sleeping (hence the z's). So the eye is shut and at the same level as the "day" eye. The black spot slightly below that is actually the mouth, partly opened due to the snoring. :)

Oh thank goodness I'm not the only one. When I first saw it my brain registered it as a closed eye. But then my brain went 'no, no, that eye has grumpily slipped down to the mouth area' which is exactly how I feel when I wake up for a few hours after.
