Thank you for the information, that's most likely what the name was based off of, I would think. :o Yeah the other site's species was called an eyrie, and the pet name similarities between the two sites was what made me wonder what the origin was.. But it reminds me that I should've googled both names instead of just Irion ages ago because a search for Eyrie goes straight to the definition for aerie, and that would have saved me all this time and wondering 😭

This is just a guess but an aerie (also spelled eyrie) is another word for a nest of bird of prey, especially eagles, and is pronounced air-ee or ee-ree so it sounds similar to Irion. I think the griffon pet on Neopets is named for the same word, though I haven't been on that site for over 10 years and I can't remember how they spell it.

From a behind-the-scenes point of view, I keep wondering how the name for the Irion came about tbh. Some pet names are easier to guess the origins/inspirations behind them, but I've been drawing a blank on this one for a while and I'm frustrated <.<

was hoping they'd be bigger lol but they're cute. i would've made the neck fur poofier, it seems a bit thin or scraggley? In the pet art and elsewhere they have majestic manes, but i'm not getting that from this line. (sorry for being a complainer)

went to elementary school, middle school, and high school with siblings who had “Irion” as their last name and their dad was a teacher. They pronounced it just like “iron” so that’s how I’ve always said it.

Okay but how do they get the feathers on their ears? Does a parent pierce the babies' ears with their claws or something? Is it a clip or a piercing? Where does the metal (or whatever material it is) come from? Are there Irion smiths? The Common has green feathers in its ear, does that mean Common Irions all have Field parents? So many questions!

Do the tail feathers not molt? Imagine if they did, though. If the other feathers are sought-after imagine if people could get a hold of those beautiful, gigantic, fluffy tail feathers!
