Goodbye Cults!

In what has likely been a long-expected announcement, we are officially doing away with Cults on Subeta!

On January 1st, Cults will be entirely removed from the site, so be sure to remove any items or sP you may have stored in yours!

And don't forget that forum groups have already largely duplicated much of the social functions of Cults. They're not just ping groups anymore: forum groups not only have their own subforums, but also sP banks. You can also easily mute notifications for any forum group you're a member of, which lets you join to socialize even if you don't want the group pings!

Is there any possibility that forum groups can be marked as cults? Should this become an option could we then have a vault to hold X amount of items at least at any given time? I'm not asking for a full cult set up but something to clarify to others it's a forum for cult members and that items can still be donated.

This is such a shame tbh. Cults only died because a revamp was apparently too much work. I met one of my best aubeta friends through my old cult - who flew from California to Scotland to stay with me for a few weeks. Forums might have similar functions but it's too easy to get bogged down into a million other pings etc. Such a pity this is the 'solution'.

Cults would have been great if they hadn't been ignored all these years. Guilds are almost a mandatory feature in any game environment, and normally very popular. No, they're not going to be if they're limited and glitchy and just don't work. Well anyway lets hope the forum groups can fill that void. As long as there's somewhere i can go to discuss Harry Potter and Doctor Who, i'm good.

Please please don't let items and sp in cult storage disappear into the nether! Maybe add some automated system to give them to the cult owner, or redistribute them to members, once the deadline passes?

Might be a good idea to send a private message (with big flashy letters) to the owners of the cults - I know it's easy (too easy) to miss news posts that are small like this one - and what if this is the one month the owner is on hiatus?

Well hopefully there will be ways to retreive things for those users. But if someone in a thread I was in didn't happen to message that cults were to go poof (and I went and looked back) the 1st would have come and I would have had no CLUE that these were even going byebye.

I'm only in the daily item but still. I'll miss them on principal but I did sortof forget they were a thing to be honest.

I am actually happy to hear this. Out of personal experience, cults were rather cliquey in a negative way. I am sure many had quite an opposite experience, however.

That's cool and all but could you please then fix the forum groups?! They really aren't at all functional. They jump around on the list of other group's forums, they have broken images, there is no option to jump to first unread post. Plus I mean, just because there's forums for some i'm joined in doesn't mean i want it listed on my forums home page. Let us have an option to "hide" forums , and maybe even decide where on the page we want them listed, like an order. PLEASE fix this, fine tune it a little more. Please don't take away one broken thing you promised to fix, and hand us another broken thing like it's the solution.

Also it's not clear on who can access the bank in these groups, if it's admin only or anyone in the group. There are also no logs please add logs to the bank function. Please add a safe function to groups so holding items isn't just one designated thing. Members would donate stuff and now they don't have the option to do that. We will receive less generous impulse donations because it simply isn't on a menu. Not the end of the world but something to consider. It's a little backwards having to keep all the cult items in a gallery.

Ahaha @ I'm glad forum groups have gotten increased function. I hope they continue to get support and attention and maybe some increased customizibility! (That's totally a word) Would be cool to have a banner and a forum group safe or something along those lines.

My fondest memories of the site are centred around my years in a cult and I'm not sure I'd still be here without that friendship base, so I'll forever be grateful for them. We had a lot of good times! I'll miss ya, cults.

They were fun, back then. But there were a lot of problems with it too. In my experience, they had never worked to their full capacity. I've tried several, but in the end I got tired of it because of those troubles.

And indeed.. the forums started to get better and better. Especially with the ping groups. Much easier and more relaxed. Afterall.. none of us can be here 24/7. There is something like real live and.. work (heheh.. the money to support this site has to come from somewhere :) )

All said.. it is still sad when something of the old Subeta goes away. But hey.. that's life.

It would be nice if there would be an item to salute to the whole cult thing. Same goes for the Journals of the old days.

What do we do if our cult leader no longer plays? I took over Jellybean when disappeared over a year ago and was never able to access the cult functions. (I've since passed leadership on but the question is still valid.)

Could we get a gallery linked to the forum group bank to move the cult's items, or where shall they all go, since galleries are down to ONE per member?

Or is there another place (other than vaults or shops) where we can have those items? All I can think about is a display-only shop, but that kinda defeats the purpose of a shop.

Kinda sad. We had long ago stopped using the forum part of cults but still used the bank and safe for donations. Will be harder to work with items now without a safe in the forum group. I'm sure we'll adapt though.

The name always rubbed me the wrong way, considering how much damage real-life cults do, so I'm happy to see them go. The forums are an easy-to-use space anyway.
