I want to take a moment to acknowledge my own dog, Nora, who helped inspire Wilfred's concept. When I adopted her last year, I learned about the growing collection of herding dogs in the local shelter. Strictly used as tools, they are often abandoned once the sheep are sold. Nora was also used as a tool before I adopted her: she was kept in a very small kennel and produced high-dollar litters well into her old age.

As many of you know, we owe the animals in our care our commitment, our love, and our time. We have a responsibility to them; we are their entire world. Taking a chance on Nora, a scrawny elderly dog recovering from a lifetime of litters and mange, was one of the best decisions I ever made. She is my entire world.

I'm celebrating Nora's first "Gottcha Day" on the 26th, as a birthday of sorts to honor the day she finally came home. ❤️ ❤️ ❤️

wow, that was a really touching story, and very well-written, too! though sad, it was great to read. the artwork brings everything together, too.
