Learn to Bake

Are you prepared to become a baking champion? Or perhaps just learn enough to not burn everything you touch? Come visit me at my new bakery in Veta Lake, which will be open year-round, to learn how different cookies, pies, loaves of bread, and cakes!

As you cook more things and earn more experience, your level in baking will go up. As you level up, more recipes will be unlocked for you, meaning they will no longer show up greyed out on the front page! Once you get more experienced, when you go back to cook easier recipes, you’ll have a much higher success rate. After all, we know how hard baking a new thing can be, so don’t be surprised if you end up burning a thing or two!

I’ve prepared a lovely baking starter kit for everyone. I’ll make sure to give you one when you visit me for the first time!

If you have any questions, I’m here to help!

Just so you know, burning has nothing to do with the timing of each baked good! Burning is tied to your skill level, not how long it takes you to grab a baked good from the oven. ;)

This was all fun till I set my real timer and Fantine said I burned some apple apple pie that I paid 2 mil SP for the ingredients! Shit!

I'm excited for this! I remember Keith talking about finding new ways to get items in the game without instant deflation: I think this works :p

Dude, I AM SO PUMPED OVER THIS AS A WHOLE. SO STOKED OVER WHAT IS TO COME. Seriously, I adore this site and bringing in my love of baking is AMAZING. But with this, you have to deal with me suggesting lots of things. No time to wait, gotta help you out right now immediately.

I still think another option for vanilla is good. You made two options for flour even though the other option isn't really correct, it would make sense and help out adding the other options for vanilla and salt until more things are added to the site.

hahahahaha! We’re going to not use it for the next few batches of recipes, like the ones you see right now will be the only ones using it for a while! I have a list of the other extracts we have + oils, etc etc that we’ll use. :D We’re going to try to vary things up as much as possible and once we start doing themed holiday baked goods, it’ll be a lot easier. Just think of all the possible alcoholic ones we could do for Masquerade, hahaha.

I don’t want to make a salt category until we get a few more salt items! It’s a suggestion on that one thread for like 4-5 new salt items! Any new ingredients we add will keep the pretty low rarity (and older ingredients we use if they’re over rarity like 65 I’ll likely lower them).

(as far as vanilla extract being rare, yes it was higher up! I lowered the rarity quite a bit though so it’ll start restocking / going out via vending / goes out via that kit! again, it’s only the first real day; I’m keeping an eye on prices and how many are used on site etc :))

Could we at least substitute it with vanilla bean ? Though it's not always the best idea (you'd sooner use vanilla paste), but it's something. I'm pretty sure it was and it's a staple ingredient, meaning you're going to need a lot of it, so any form of substitute would be nice (I still think we should have a genetech version, not like the site strays away from doing two forms of the same item). Users won't complain over having more than one of something ;)

I hope this doesn't also mean a no to possibly getting other flours like bread, pastry, and cake since we have flours ? Having other options is great (you don't actually want to substitute flour with cornmeal, you'd use pastry or even cake; for breads you'd use bread or all purpose but not cake or pastry, but you won't see people complaining much because we like the extra options as they spread out the cost a little).

And Salt ? Why can't we substitute with Sea Salt ? Not all of the ingredients are from one shop. I'd really love to see some other salts added to the site later on, like pink or black, but anyhow. But we have sea salt, could we use that instead ?

... This came out ten times longer and 100% more rude than intended. I'm sorry if you read any of this as me being mean, I swear I don't mean to be I just over explain ! ❤️

Your Maple Leaf Cookies will be finished baking in about 0 minutes.

Literally made me wait and refreshed to see this like 10x before letting me "check on my burnt cookies when I hovered the entire time and was right there for the 15 mins.

There are two vanilla extracts left in all of subeta. Maybe if we leave them alone in their environment they will reproduce and repopulate again. Only if they like each other.

impossible vanilla extract aside, i thought that salt at least wouldn't be hard to find in the donation center. that's one ingredient i didn't expect subeta to ever be short of.

Making a genetech substitute vanilla (Homemade Vanilla Extract) would be awesome. Vodka is the best to use, but seeing as we don't have a restocking/inexpensive vodka... I'd go with Rum (you can use Brandy or Bourbon... But then we also don't have a restocking/inexpensive Bourbon either)

Well I gave it one last shot on the first recipe (maple) and burned it again. This was my third and last time trying I think. With prices inflated for the extract and the odds of passing the level one recipe apparently not even possible I don't think this is worth the time.

Its nearly impossible to get the Vanilla extract to complete the first recipe past using the basket. Either restock it normally so its not millions in user shops or have a way for the Pure Vanilla Beans to be made into it since those seem to be restocking constantly on the Donation area. This was a cute idea but impossible to get past the first recipe with restocking and prices like this...

Concept is exciting, but would have loved for these same items to have Real-World recipes to go along with them... could make it much more fun. (Though, I might try using the same ingredients shown to see how it goes for a real-world Subeta treat and share it on the forums..) ... After prices fall. :X

I hope not too many people are freaking out so bad about ingredients for the first recipe, because it seems that baking kit she gives us has all the basic ingredients in it for that recipe. And yeah, I too went to check the shops for ingredients, found inflation, and went full "stalking the main shops mode" for a bit. But go figure that thingy she gave us isn't a wearable... or some cutesy prize with flavor text. It's actually a bunch of items to make things with! So for folks panicking and asking if anyone found any non-inflated Salt, check your goodie basket first.

After burning the cookies twice, I think I'll wait a few months for prices to cool down. This is an interesting idea though. I suppose these are all new foods and you can only make them this way? Maybe you can add my favorite, red velvet cake to the list? I'd really like to bake that one someday.
