Haha, the chart reminds me of the time I went to the optometrist and they walked me into a room without my glasses on and asked me to read the poster on the far wall. I said, "What poster?" and the lady pretty much died. :'D My eyesight is so terrible.

Well, I am familiar with the concept of the eye chart. However, my vision is pretty bad so I have a hard time distinguishing letters after more than a couple of rows down.

As someone who's all about accessibility, I find this to be great! I'd also love to see some prosthetic limbs, too (not only the usual models but also the aesthetic ones, like a flower printed or a steampunk model; they exist IRL and they're beautiful). Maybe Rachelle could make it happen this year? If not Rachelle (since she seems to focus on zombie stuff, and it could be offensive/problematic to have her work on living prosthetics), another character with similar mechanics, but specialized in prosthetic limbs. Maybe Selina herself!

I would love to see some sign language dictionaries (I'd guess the Centropolis dialect would be the most common, but other places having their own dialects would be awesome, and I'd guess Selina would at least stock a Saherimos dialect dictionary as well, since that's where she lives) to go with the new hearing aids!

Side note, a rant. Adaptive technology is SO EXPENSIVE but chances are if you're not living with family, or not married to someone who has monies, the stuff you need is ridiculously expensive... and if you're in that boat, chances are you're living on SSI/social security in the US which is below poverty level to subsist on.... and affording this stuff is almost out of range for so many people, so while that e reader would be nice IF the technology can advance, it'll be unbuyable for so many !grrr.

I love this! The hearing aids are pretty subtle while looking realistic, and the other items are really cool - are braille e-readers really a thing? That's so great, because one of the main problems with braille is that it makes books bulky and it's expensive to produce, so something like that really solves both those problems!

The brailler is neat, my mom is blind, I grew up around them my entire life. I really ought to learn myself, but it's true, Braille is becoming less of a necessity with talking books coming further and more readily available. Some Braille paper to go with this would be useful as well, it's heavier than real paper, as it has to be sturdy enough for holding the impressions of the dots. There's actually three levels of English braille, from level one which is writing out each letter and number and punctuation mark, level 2, which has all that, but has a LOT of shorthand, contractions, combinations and other things to make Braille a lot faster to read, and books and magazines a lot less bulky (God damn shit's bulky as fuck yo. srsly.) and level 3, a lot of shorthand, and from what my mom has said is geared for mathematics. (Grade, I know. There's four kids playing a very loud hide and seek around me.)

Also,m some talking book readers would be nice, there's a lot of adaptability things blind people use, and it'd be nice for them to get some recognition. A pen friend labeller is super useful for my mom, as well as brailled watches and talking time pieces. We've had these two talking clocks since before I was born...... oh memories heh.

I could go on and on...... I've grown up in a blind and visually impaired house, I'm losing my sight myself thanks to glaucoma, and my daughter has it, too. What fun we have to look forward to. It's nice ot see these things to try to make us feel included, because let me tell you, it's very very difficult being visually impaired in this world. Very difficult.

How well I know! Our insurance told us they paid X amount but I had to pay out of pocket then send them the documentation for reimbursement. Their check arrived, eventually, and was a hell of a lot less than what they quoted. Turns out 'administration costs' are quite steep. I lost my hearing in my early 30's and the cause is unknown. It happened gradually over a few years. I didn't want people to see my aids so I first bought the inner ones. Big mistake! They were excruciatingly itchy so when they died I went with the over the ear ones. So much better!

To the anonymous person who gifted me ALL the aids....THANK YOU SO MUCH! I'm thrilled to have them. :)

30k sp is a lot easier to get your hands on than 2 two thousand dollars though! LOL. My grandma has to pay about five thousand when she needs new ones, and that's after insurance pays their portion. It's absolute insanity, I can't believe so much of that cost has to come out-of-pocket.

They're 30K! Good God! My first ones were the in the ear kind and cost me $1.5K, my current ones are behind the ear and cost me 2.5K

Ones like the item image are still concepts, unfortunately (though there is now a Braille Smartwatch - http://fingerson.strikingly.com/ - that can in-theory handle ebooks, but much tinier display). About the closest product is a portable Braille keyboard/display, and they are expensive (http://www.freedomscientific.com/Products/Blindness/FocusBlueBrailleDisplays).

But a lot of visually impaired people don't even learn Braille (estimates vary by country, but as low as 10-1%) so there just isn't a lot of push for development. If Braille became easier and more portable, that might become a bit of a self-solving problem, though.
