Free Gift: Danphe

I\'m sure you\'ve all read by now that there was a great tragedy in Nepal, where a massive earthquake has caused widespread destruction that has so far resulted in the death of over 4,000 people.

We\'d like to call attention to two charities, the first being Possible Health that works with the American Nepal Medical Foundation on the ground to provide immediate medical relief to people affected. Possible Health constantly ranks high for non profits, and we\'re glad to see they\'ve already reached their funding goal, but can always use more!

Second, the American that died while climbing Mount Everest was named Dan Fredinburg who was climbing to raise funds for OrphanGift, an organization that assists orphans in Nepal, whose cause is even more critical at a time like this. You can find a fund set up in his name here or find out more about the charity directly here.

The beautiful Danphe above is the new Free Gift.

Thank you for this, Subeta. It's beautiful. My family and I will be donating all we can. There are plenty of donation centres here because we're close to that area. Everything counts.

I wasn't planning to donate anything but to be honest, that was mostly because I wasn't aware of any reputable charities and hadn't gone out of my way to look for any (I know, shame on me). Thanks so much for the links. Donated money I wouldn't have otherwise.

My cousin has been living over there for a few months now. Some of her friends are missing, and two of the children she was looking after died in the earthquake. She's decided not to come home and to stay and help out there. She works for an Australian charity called The Big Umbrella. If any Australians could donate to them, we'd be really appreciate.

One of my cousins and their family was over there when the earthquake struck, but I'm happy to report that her and her family are all safe and sound and that she and her two children will be returning to the USA this next Monday while her husband is going to be staying to help with relief efforts. :)

And thank you for such a sweet Free Gift! I'll treasure this greatly!

I had no idea another American died at the base camp :( Dan was a friend of mine (really more of a friend of friends, we hare a lot of mutuals) and so I wanted to call out his mission in particular, thank you for the additional information :(

I realize he was mostly mentioned in regards to the charity, but there was also an American doctor, tourist, and documentary filmmaker killed at the base camp, along with several other people of varying nationalities and affiliations. Just a clarification, this is still an awesome gesture especially as I fear that the death toll will surpass the ~3,950 mark set at nightfall, possibly by quite a factor, as reports from more rural communities nearer to the epicenter continue to come in :c

Also, if for any reason you prefer a different organization or want more options/places to give, CNN and several other news sites are running large lists of those true charities vetted to be on the ground provided aid. It is unfortunate that so many try to take advantage of a situation to falsely raise funds, but there are great organizations like these and others out there doing good.

I live in East India and I felt the earthquake here. But I didn't realise how bad it was until later. A couple of my cousins were in Kathmandu but they got out unscathed. I'm so thankful for that. But all those people... And they're saying the death toll could go as high as 10,000. The earthquake was overdue for 8 years. If only they had done more to prepare...

Sadly, I can't donate due to my tight budget right now, but I'm happy that there are people that have the funds to help out are.

This is why I love Subeta. The staff didn't have to do this, but they did. And now they're directing our attention to two charities we can trust, so we don't have to try finding safe places to donate on our own. You guys are amazing, and this is why we love you. Thank you for taking the time to do this for people who may never even hear about it - you're wonderful.

Daphne, the beautiful state bird of Nepal. ❤️ The people of Nepal and the country are very close to my heart. 2 years ago I was training in Nepal. The people welcomed me into their homes with open arms. Thank you so much Subeta for caring and showing compassion! Not everyone is able to donate, but even by spreading the word/highlighting these donation links everyone can help in some way. My dad, uncle and cousins have flown out as part of a volunteer relief team from South Korea and China to help support people affected by the earthquake.
