Survival CW Contest!

Are you ready for the upcoming survival celebrations or are you missing a few essentials? This is your chance! Skitters and Louis L'Amour have decided to open their doors to a few new suppliers and are now accepting applications! Get yours in before time runs out at 11:59pm Subeta standard time on the February 19th. At that point, the staff judges will go through and wheedle out the best quality items for the users to vote on over the weekend!

Rules:

  • Users may submit up to three designs for consideration.
  • Item images and names should be themed towards either the Love Shack or the Zombie Den.
  • Must be original items (no tributes, no recolors of already existing items, etc).
  • Submitted items must adhere to the Custom Wearable rules and guidelines.
  • Commissioned art is eligible, but should be credited to the artist(s) in the submission notes.
  • Facial features are allowed for this contest!

    Prizes!
  • 2,000 Cash Shop Credits.
  • 50,000,000sP.
  • Free copy of your item.
  • Winning items to be sold in either the Love Shack or Zombie Den.
  • Participation prizes will be awarded!

    Helpful Tips
  • There will be no denial/resubmission process for this so be sure to submit your very best work!
  • Variety is the spice of life! Submitting three different types of items will increase your chances to win more than submitting three recolored copies of the same shoes.

You can re-read everything and submit your items HERE! Good luck, everyone!

Can voting please be split into categories from the start?

Like, you get X amount of votes for Facial Features, X amount for Clothing, X amount for other (like backgrounds, companions, held items, accessories, etc), X amount for hair.

You ended up choosing more items during Peka because of the vast amount of interest and variety of items - and since this is the only time we can get user created features on the site, if nothing else at least a section of wearables with X amount of votes and a section of facial features with X amount of votes.

I kind of wish facial features weren't allowed because at least a couple are guaranteed to win and it really limits creativity.

If we commission an artist to do something for this competition and the item doesn't win, are we then allowed to try and submit it as a CW (because we would like to see it on site?). Assuming it falls under the normal CW guidelines. I just am curious to know. If anyone who has participated in a past comp and not won, and then were they able to submit it later as a CW? Hopefully I can get an answer for this before I decide to commission something. :p

Never made a custom item but i'm willing to give it a shot. Gonna be a bit tedious going through the wardrobe to make sure my idea hasn't already been made!

Ahhhh ok cool. Since the site has changed so much I haven't been able to keep any interest in it so I'm not around that often, but I just can't seem to resist coming to see what's up with Survival! Haha. Glad to hear this has worked out for sP before.

I do wonder how many items will be chosen for us to vote on.. It might encourage the other artists to join this contest if we knew how many could win. Either way I look forward to what comes from this. Hopefully it's not dominantly facial features this time. :P

How about, you don't make participation prizes also collection items this time. That would be super wonderful.

Otherwise I'm submitting some super ugly shit and you're gonna deal with it.

I think it would be cool if everyone could enter. Not everyone can is able to do the perfect looking CW's, but there are a lot more people who can design, their talents will be undiscovered. There could be a contest where people do sketches (including color) and maybe a description to explain their design. When the winners are choosen, the subeta artists could draw it into an wearable with the subeta standards.

I haven't had the time to enter any contests lately and the one attempt I made was an utter failure cuz I ran outta time (and no inspiration... so tired...). So, I might give a crack at this... hopefully I can find some time. I don't think there's anything wrong with them doing a cw contest, esp considering the last several where not cw contests. Sure, the prizes weren't as incredible, but perhaps one of the reasons they did them smaller was to see how popular they were. Now that they see that these site run contests are very popular, they're offering more high amounts of prizes? Who knows. It's staff, they can do what they want. If you don't like it, well, you do have every right to complain- but don't blame the other users on site for something they have no control over either. And if I remember right- this is only the 2nd cw staff run contest done... so it's not "every" contest. Also, I believe staff said before that they're trying to keep a good balance of different art mediums for contests. So sometimes it'll be digital art, sometimes it'll be traditional, or crafts or something of the like. I think they're just trying to keep it more fair. Someone may be really good at digital art, but suck at sewing (or whatever else they may come up with). You know?

One question... the three items we submit all have to be for the same side? Like, only 3 Zombie Den or 3 Love Shack, or can it be mixed? Like, 2 of one and 1 of the other? Just curious.

Always fun to see what kind of items people come up with! Though I do hope the winning items will be much more diverse than the Peka Boo ones. Some of them were not only similar to each other but to multiple items that already existed on the site, as well.

:)

As long as the items are original and aren't some bland pair of flat shoes or makeup, I guess I'm alright with it. I mean, I won't be participating in this contest for the same reason many others already stated, but I hope to see something different for once than the usual CWs I've seen around the site.

The problem with allowing users to submit ideas is that it would be unfair to those who are able to make CWs. Suggesting an idea, even if it is incredibly detailed and over 10,000 words is no whee near as difficult as making a CW. Even if suggest ideas were allowed, the prizes should not be the same. Sure, let's give someone 2,000 CSC and 50 million for suggesting, for example "a pair of shoes with bandages and blood on them." Um, yeah. No.

So excited for the gorgeous items that are pretty much guaranteed to come out of this! Loved the Peeka ones <3 I do see the point made by others though, that it would be even more awesome if we could send in sketches or art in other forms. I don't agree that design ideas should be something we could enter, because ideas can be interpreted in many ways and then the user isn't actually creating anything at all. Just like the cake, carved pumpkin, and ornament winners that became items, I think the entries for any contest should at least be created by the user in whatever medium they work in. So if someone wants to carve an HA in wood cuz that's their thing, go for it! lol More likely we would see sketches, actual clothing made, people doing their own/other's makeup and taking a picture to send in. Can't really call it a CW contest though, I mean it is a wearable, but a user didn't customize it, staff would make it so it would just be a new item inspired by a user model. I know the same few will likely win all the CW contests, and that is sort of a bummer, but then at the same time, this is a way for anyone outside the CW market to get some of their nice items. And it gives anyone with digital talent a chance to submit without the barrier of paying, which is a big deal. Hopefully there are some super talented broke people entering so we can get some items/style we really would never see. I am in the no talent bucket so good luck to everyone that enters!

I would have entered this if staff were the ones to actually make the CW. Like if the user provided the design and if they won it was made into a CW. Not everyone has the ability to conform to the Subeta style or can even draw >.>

I love this, not sure If I will make anything. Im horrid at shading subeta style. So cws have failed in the past. If only I could do line art and someone could colour it for me ahaha!

I think what many were saying is that so far all of the ITEM design contests have been for cw quality only. I feel like it would be so much more fun if those with little art skills, or just who dont have the skill to produce subeta style art (like myself) could design something. Other ava sites that I will not name have shops just for this sort of idea. For the contests users can draw, sketch, just take a picture of a little idea, and if it gets a ton of votes the site artists make it.

So then there isnt that challenge for those with no graphic tablets, or who cant art. They can still enter, and as long as their idea is cool enough it can be produced on site.

Its just that art contests that arent crafts are cw specific. Not having that limit would give so much opprotunity. And would include the whole population, even if they are limited to stick figures and item descriptions instead of top notch art.

So these shops will be selling CSC items this year? Limited access CSC items? Or is a major format change happening for year round access for all? I'm sure we'll " have to see" but... I'm not entirely sure I like the idea of CSC items having to such a huge thing now. Or are these selling for sP in those shops? (Or did I totally miss something last year and this is already a thing?)

Hmm, with the requirement being either zombie or valentine items that probably means a lot of gross and pink CWs. Neither are anything I'd ever wear but I'm sure a lot of people will be able to use them. Guess the winning CWs will be for sale in the shops. That will be cool.
