, a lot of thought goes into decisions like this. We compare the number of copies of a weapon on site to the number of battlers who can use it and try to keep things balanced. Reducing the price of one weapon can kill the value of others in the tier, especially in tiers 8-12, which don't have a lot of weapons in them.
We've been working hard lately to release good, affordable weapons in every tier, such as the recent plot prizes (nice t7 and t9 weapons) and the monthly challenger weapons (of which we've already released t9, t10, and t11), but we don't want EVERY weapon in a tier to be easily obtainable. That kills a lot of the fun -- if everyone owns the same weapons, then they use the same strategy; if everyone can earn every weapon, then there's no market for selling them (and people are sinking tons of money into bettering their pets and not recouping any of those costs); if every weapon is easy to get, then there's no fun in training your pet and trying for higher and higher goals.
In addition, plot prizes are supposed to be rare; that's half the fun of participating in a plot. It's not fair of us to release a bunch of copies of a weapon during a plot, and then turn around and re-release and devalue that weapon only one year later. We've had people asking us to bring back old plot challengers for a while now, and we've always said that if we did, they wouldn't come back with all of their stats and loot and achievements intact, because those were exclusive prizes. We chose to re-release the gutting knife because there were so few around and not many people attempting to sell their copies (it's been a long time since that plot), but the same cannot be said of the tooth.
tl:dr version: It is about money, somewhat (balancing the economy on a petsite is important), but it's not as simple as all of that.
I...really wish the reasoning and justification behind loot NOT dropping wasn't associated with money. It just keeps painting this really ugly picture of greed and exclusivity.

- We don't have the capability (yet) of having special loot drop on the tenth win. We could have set it up as an achievement prize... but broken achievements is what created this mess in the first place.

We couldn't give out the pretty big tooth again... more people can beat Bonesaw now, and it would completely devalue the tooth, which is already buyable. Large Gutting Knife was okay because there were so few out there (none in shops and only one in trades). We'll have some new loot on old opponents that are coming up this week!

Seems there was a strange delay in the end of the battle and the opponent wouldn't let my pet go XD. I finally got my pet unstuck fro, the battle and the healer healed my pet. When that thing takes hold of your pet it don't let go easily XD.

Is there automatic healing with him when you lose a battle? I just lost a battle to him and when I went to heal my pet it said my pet was already healed and didn't need the healers help :).
