The pet's name is based off of the mythical "Selkie", a seal that could shed its fur and become human. The main character of this story is a selkie herself.

Thanks everyone! :) I have to say that I'm a bit shocked that I won (Silkie's story was unfinished) but I appreciate the compliments, even from those who don't especially like Twilight.
