Hey questers!

Quick update to how quests choose their items:

What Changed

Quest givers will now ask for a maximum of 2 items per quest, no matter what. Previously, some quest NPCs (especially ones with multiple item categories like Maleria) could end up asking for 4, 6, or even more items if their pools were set up that way. Now if a quest would ask for more than 2, it shuffles all the candidates together and picks just 2.

Why This Matters

Less hunting around, more actually completing quests! The goal is to make daily quests feel like a quick daily activity rather than a scavenger hunt across the entire site.

It also helps us maintain better control over quest item pools on the backend. With a fixed cap, we can tune the individual pool rules without worrying about accidentally creating quests that ask for way too many items.

Feedback Wanted

  • Does 2 items feel right, or should it be different?
  • Are you finding quest items more easily?
  • Any quest givers that still feel off?

Drop your thoughts below, or use the Bugs/Suggestions subforums if you run into issues.

Happy questing!

Thanks Keith 😄

First impressions: Change to two items was immediately noticeable and feels really good! Was able to complete quests easier. Mauve, Pete and Malaria had felt a bit scavengery but way nicer with two.

Main 'off' quest giver for me is Stickers - some holiday items are ok but there have been some which feels wrong. Can't be super definitive on this / needs more testing.

First, thank you so much for doing this! It was very annoying hunting down 4 items for quests, 2 is much better, less time consuming, more managable!! I did note that Pete still seems fixated on Funnel Cake! (I had to turn down his quest for the first time as it was way too expensive to buy for a quest today!) And I wanted to mention that I was asked for a Steamworks sticker (and have been asked for other holiday sticker/event items in the past) - which is fine for me, but it is maybe not so good for new players to be asked for holiday/event stickers as they may not have the event currency to use to buy them.

Did mine yesterday before the change, so first day with the change over: YES to the two items thing, and thank you!, That seems plenty. Noticed the rewards were adjusted accordingly too and seem to be all right (except for Saggi, but that is partly because so much got inflated with the asking for the same things over and over again-but might want to tweek him to the 100-150k range instead of the 75-100k, cause his items are normally more expensive even without inflation). Mauve can stop asking for bongo drums whenever they want! Same with Pete and those funnel cakes. Rumi did not ask me for a single love sticker today so that was nice. But maybe nix the specials from their asking pool? I myself am ok if they're in some event shop, cause I got event currency laying about and can decide to use it for the quest or not, but maybe newer folk would be left out. Also the retired ones maybe should not be an ask, or maybe only if they are under a certain amount, something like that (inflation again). Just a thought. Over all, much better, quit fewer quests today

Saggi is the one that I have the most issues with still. The amount of items being asked for doesn't really help when he still doesn't give all the bonuses that the others do (and that he himself used to give until the start of Dec, last year). With him hardly ever being profitable to do anymore the amount of sP that I make on any given day, on kumos, is about half as much as I make on legacy. Today, for example, I made just under 4mil on legacy, and then barely 2mil on kumos. Which feels horrible, and makes kumos quests feel barely worth bothering with, as before December, last year, I was actually making about the same amount on each site every single day. I am someone that does my quests every single day, and I do it for the sP that I earn through them. Not for the items, or anything else. So, having the amount I can earn on kumos diminished so much really feels like the point of me doing them is being taken away...

I've just returned to doing quests again after a week or two away, but the changes are really evident. Kumos/Quests are a LOT faster, timeouts barely happening and really easy to use on mobile (I normally hate mobile anything but was really pleasantly surprised!). However, Saggi is no longer profitable - I get around 50k, when he asks for items anywhere from 50k - 999k. I did a few of them for the New Years tokens but obviously gave up the quest with the 999k item, that is a bit too expensive for the rewards we get. I was super happy to see Alexander added to the quests, and he has awesome prizes too! But I've had to give up 2/5 quests because the items were again too expensive. I don't know if that's a permanent change or not, I barely had to give up quests before, but it feels like I'm giving up half of them because the profit just isn't there. Literally everything else about Kumos is just getting better and better though, it's making me want to visit the site more to see all the improvements!

I absolutely love the change to just two items, kumos is still very laggy for me so this makes things slightly less.. painful? (Also, the scrolling with the four item quests was kind of annoying, and again, none of that with just two items!).

Just wanted to add (and I'm sure you've heard it a LOT) Saggi is still feeling "off" for me - I really don't like that more than half of my other quests from other NPC's give a better reward than he does!! He is supposed to be the "high roller" of the quest givers, rewarding you nicely even when you purchase higher priced items!! (Or so it has always been, in my experience!) He is also one that I have been giving up on a lot of quests for, because the items are too expensive, and his reward is not worth it.

Only 2 items asked for definitely speeds up questing. I wouldn't mind the occasional 3 or 4, though (Legacy Maleria asks for 1 - (mostly) 3 for example. Alexander asks for 1 book...) I'm still hunting for the very same items day by day - it's just tiresome. That never happens on legacy? Granted, we're still missing a few shops on Kumos, but this can hardly cause such an impact.

As mentioned above, with the spread out Kumos layout, it's nicer to have only 2 and therefore visible items.

Saggi is still an issue - I thought the least he gives were 75k. Yet with the reduction to only 2 items, he only pays 50k. That doesn't even cover NPC purchase costs!

What we're still missing is a longer user shop list with our own shop at the top, providing we have that item priced within the shown range, so we can easily drag one from there.

Just popping in to add that Rumi asked me for a LOYALTY SHOP sticker today. Excuse me what??!!! I am sorry but that is just not acceptable!! Those are so extremely hard to come by. I can totally understand the event currency shops (steamworks, esthers etc.) But NOT the loyalty shop. WOW. I hope you look into that and tweak that, because having to turn down a quest because a sticker costs loyalty points OR over 3mil sP is not right to me. Thanks for hearing my venting!!

Same.

At first it was a several million sP Wreathed Red Rreign sticker, that made me quit, but Rumi also asked me for a Loyalty Shop What Day is It Sticker!

Rumi asked me for the same sticker today as well. I've noticed that Rumi and Miss Maybel particularly are asking for the same thing repeatedly/the item pool seems to be small, I think that Miss Maybel has asked me for Buttwings 3 or 4 days in a row now.

Folks: Please make a new bug thread if you encounter something, or a feedback thread if you want to give feedback. i'm not checking these older threads outside of feedback on the particular thing (2 items per quest).

It will really help me stay organized & make sure that I can close a thread out after completing the task 💖

- will try to remember to do that going forward - however I wasn't sure that those items being asked for WAS a bug or issue - so I didn't want to post there about it and thought this was the best place. Thanks for the update!

imageTwo items per quest definitely feels right. I am okay with three popping up occasionally when it comes to Maleria only because that's what we're used to on legacy.

I am still noticing the need to "give up" way too many quests based on the quest giver asking for items that cost hundreds of thousands of sP or even millions in a few cases. This has been across the board on all Kumos quests but I have noticed it most often when it comes to the "sticker" quests. I used to simply open the shop and buy the item without looking at prices, but I've found I can't do that now. In fact, I "bank" (vault) my sP each morning so I don't accidentally spend an enormous amount of sP on a quest that isn't going to pay out even close to what I spent. Because of the inflated prices, it's not usually even all that worth it to spend the time doing kumos quests. (This isn't an issue on legacy, really; the only quest giver that you won't make sP with over there tends to be Quentin.) I do try to continue to do them anyway because our money situation at home does not allow for me to buy a ton of cash shop credit at the moment, and I appreciate that I can still get some through doing quests.

Just this morning, I noticed that the area that shows us how many quests we have left to do out of twenty-four/our daily quest reward box is a very pretty blue and pink now rather than yellowish and green. I really like that particular change!

Edit a few minutes later when doing a Kumos quest: One example of a quest giver asking for an item with a huge price tag today: Rumi (Sticker Resistance) just asked me for a Stone Peas in a Pod Sticker, which is currently selling for 920,000 sP. I would lose a ton of sP on that when the point of questing is to make sP... so I will need to cancel this quest.
