Hi, I'm in dire need of help. I'm finally going for it, working on my first novel but my issue is, I have 4 ideas already but I want to focus on one. So if.ypu could choose which Genre sounds best, that would help me a lot! I cannot give out too much detail at this time, I am sorry!
Which Genre speaks to you AKA which would you personally read? If none are your thing that's OK. Could you please ask any friends to cast their vote? Thank-you all so much for your help this means a lot to me!
On to the choices:
Urban Fantasy -Set in modern times (mine is on an Alternate Earth where magic and several new countries exist) It's more for the magic and technology ro co exist
Low-to-Mid (this just means it's not some grand sprawling adventure there are stakes and there's danger but its not on the scale of LoTR or GoT)
Cozy - Low to no stakes with just pure vibes of characters going about their life in a fantasy setting (think slice of life anime style)
Sorry for any typos I'm on my phone
Post away and again thank you all so much. I'm going to keep this open til the end of the month!
Also if you have an Instagram and want to vote there too, smail me. You do not have to follow me to vote. Thank you and have an amazing day!
[Spoiler] hey friends.please help vote and also ask your friends to vote here as well. Love you all! Thank you!

Thanks for the ping, ! Always glad to help :3
Ahhh so glad to see you writing! I just finished writing the first draft of a novel I've been putting together. I am all about the fantasy (that is the genre I wrote haha!) When you say urban, Low-to-Mid, and cozy - what kinds of topics would each of those be? I just know of fantasy/adventure and sci-fi as genres
Omg good luck! Please let me know about your book / release date when it happens! Also sure!
Low-to-Mid (this just means it's not some grand sprawling adventure there are stakes and there's danger but its not on the scale of LoTR or GoT)
Cozy - Low to no stakes with just pure vibes of characters going about their life in a fantasy setting (think slice of life anime style)
Sorry for any typos I'm on my.phone
Oh I just like to write for fun/for me. I am too critical of myself to publish.
Oooh I am liking c based on the descriptions
I'm gonna be the odd one out it looks like, and keep my vote the same as it was on insta~ D.

I am always partial to anything fantasy but I have a special soft spot for the characters associated with C. :)

D! there's a wider market for cozy, low stakes but enjoyable tales. with conventional fantasy you need something big to stand out of the crowd, can attest to this as he's also working his way towards publishing and is in a discord that shows progress of many others books!
Heya! Fellow writer here and hit the nail on the head: Cozy Fantasy is a hugely popular but pretty unrepresented genre with a lot of room to play in, but more "typical" Traditional Fantasy usually needs a good hook or it can easily get lost in the market. The key is making something that will set your work apart from others on the market, and to my knowledge there isn't actually a lot of the more cozy stuff out there in the mainstream scene, so there's definitely an opportunity.
All that said, the best advice I can probably give is to write the book you wish you had to read, cater to your own tastes first and foremost and you'll attract an audience that shares your preferences (as well as fill a niche that isn't being catered to by very nature of writing the book you want which isn't already out there.) Traditional and Cozy Fantasy both give you a lot of options!

Thank you both so much for the help, I deeply appreciate it! :)
not a problem! it's tough being a creative, but what wraith said is true-- write for yourself, write something that you would enjoy reading. the number one killer of productivity is hanging onto an idea that is serviceable/lucrative to you but isn't a true passion. Writing is tough and arduous, so take care of your passion, cradle the creative flame and even if you get the doubts that it won't sell, quell them as best you can and keep that flame burning. If you write for yourself you will attract an audience that likes the same things you do, which means that you'll get to keep writing the things you love. If you like it, then you can bet that others out there will like it too. It's hard and often you get wrapped up in your head trying to cater to others, but from what we have seen of other writers, putting yourself and your passions first makes for a more genuine story, a happy and contented authors words ring truer than those that are catering to audiences!
