Hi! Has anyone else noticed that A LOT of good pet names are available?! I remember a decade ago I’d kill for some of the names I’ve seen available! I just created Love, Moody, Legolas, and Appa this week! Are all these good names coming from inactive accounts, or?

In 2020 Subeta switched to a Non-Unique name system, meaning multiple pets can have the same name! So names no longer have to be not in use to be available.
Whatever pet had the name at the time the new system began was given the denotation "legacy name" on their profile. So there may be five pets named "Sam" but only the first Sam, if they had the name before the system change, will have "legacy name" listed.
A pet's legacy name can be removed, but once this is done it cannot be put back. Pets can also have their names changed while keeping their legacy name, so a pet may have the legacy name "Sam" and the name "Wilma".
The legacy name will remain with the pet if they are abandoned or transferred to a new owner, but the additional "legacy" on their profile (which on a unedited profile is listed under name, legacy name, birthdate, adoption date) will disappear if they are rehomed because it indicates that the pet was created by that user.

okay!! Thank you for that info I had no idea! I’m back from a long hiatus and had no idea about that change at all! So cool!
You're very welcome! It's a nice system that allows multiple people to utilize the same name instead of having to come up with misspellings or alternatives that don't fit their unique character as well. Especially since we technically have the ability to have more than 100 pets now lol.

lol I literally did and thought the same thing. I also got back from a lengthy hiatus and was re-working my pets. And I went to search if the pet names I've been eyeballing were available yet and it all spiraled from there. Now I only have two of the old set of pets I had
