I don't know if this is already a thing that might be automated in the background since there is no visible indicator for it, but the ability for your deposited SP to gain interest should really be implemented, perhaps with upgradable account types that increase the interest rate. Either that or just have the interest rate change with how much SP you have deposited. The interest should be added daily to the current total. Also as a side note I think a stock market that pays dividends is a good idea for a future venture as well.
At this point that is no longer my primary point, if they have no intention of returning interest for SP then in my opinion they should either remove the SP vault entirely as it seems to hold no significant purpose, or give it a prize based reward system so there is actually a reason to use it. Otherwise it is just a waste of code now.
Also after reading through that news posts commenters there seems to have been a decent number of people who did not want the feature to be removed and actually enjoyed collecting their interest.
But at the end of the day if they insist on keeping the SP vault, they need to add a substantial gratifying reason for it to be there.
@ Meloda_Kalour that used to be how it worked, and increasing your interest rate was the original function of Morty Cards. the feature was removed because it was just trickling excess sP into the economy for no real reason; it was one of those "well neopets has [feature], so i guess we'll do it too without really thinking about why" decisions that subeta saw a bit of during its creation. same situation with the stock market and auctions. they're just not really necessary for the way subeta's economy works.
To me if that is the case then what is the point in even keeping the SP vault at all if you can't have the reward of gaining interest for your stockpile.
EDIT The only alternative option I can think of to make the SP vault worth keeping is if there is a prize reward system based on how much you have stashed away.
Here's the news post about removing vault interest.
I don't believe it's something they will bring back and just adding sP for the sake of adding sP is a bit silly.

The vault is just a place to keep your sP so you don't spend it haphazardly. I understand wanting motivation for keeping sP in there but if you can't see the reason for using it you don't have to.
Lots of people were against the idea, I didn't really care at the time. If my memory serves me correctly many high rollers would lend each other their sP to maximise their interest gain. I don't know if this is just a untrue rumour but its for sure something people thought was happening at the time.
It would be cute if the vault had little 'merch' gifts at certain thresholds though. "Thank you for banking 100,000,000 sP with us, here's a little mug with 'I love my vault' on it.". "Wow 1,000,000,000 sP? Here's a 'Vault Dweller T-Shirt'"

Yes this would definitely work.
the point of the vault is to have a place to store your sP so you 1) don't have an overwhelming amount on hand at all times and 2) are less likely to accidentally spend anything you don't want to.
i like to put my sP away in increments of 500k so i can keep track of my earnings, while keeping ~200k on hand so i have enough for daily expenses + subeautique restocks. it's just a matter of organization and clarity; i don't need any other incentive for the vault to exist, and it would be detrimental to my (and many others') user experience if it were removed.
the vault also was a safety against when they res that could remove sp from on hand as well iirc, either way the is also where the other currencies get 'stored' and where you can stash items, so its not likely ever gong to get removed, and not likely to get 'rewards' for storing it.. could maybe(and thats a big maybe) see achievements happening but again not likely
I don't like having over 100 million sp on hand to accidentally spend before I'm ready. The vault feature helps me prevent that, and that's all the purpose it needs in my opinion. A forum title achievement or two for large savings would be fun, but not really necessary as a reason for the vault to stay as is.
Adding some kind of achievement to saving up certain amounts in your vault would be a nice touch, but I also think there are far more pressing things to focus the staff's time on atm. So this would be an "in the future" idea.
As noted, the vault used to offer interest but this feature was discontinued because it was pumping SP into the economy without benefit.
The vault isn't a feature anyone has to use, so it doesn't necessarily need to be incentivized. But it's a nice feature to have because it makes the on-hand SP manageable and protects your funds from being impacted by REs.
Considering the richest user achievement made people inclined to hoard sP, I'd only support this if it was up to 5m sP to avoid incentivizing hoarding. Any rewards for having X amount of sP in your vault that Tasha suggested can easily and very nicely tie into that.
Other than that, I'm against having sP interest in the vault again. sP is very easy to make and I really don't see a reason for pumping more of it into the system. Balancing sP interest would be a nightmare and it would only really benefit folks who already have a ton of sP in the bank.
The vault as a feature should absolutely stay, and I think it's ridiculous to claim it serves no purpose if it doesn't have bank interest and that it's a waste of code. If people are using the feature for its intended purpose - to store their sP for whatever reason (saving up for gifts, saving up for buying expensive wishlist items, making onhand sP more manageable), how is it a waste of code?
Its a lot more work to take it away than just leave it alone. Its tied in to other functions, in addition to other currencies, its also used to calculate Sarah Quest permissions, and who knows what other "background" functions it serves. Trying to remove it might mess up other things. Leaving it alone does nothing bad. And people do use it for their own purposes.
Not every feature has to have rewards.
