I know I made I thread like this back in July, but figure I do another.
So okay, it's been a year since Elon bought Twitter and five months sense he rebranded this stupid to "X," just because he's got a weird fascination with that letter. Despite all of those controversial changes like verification errors, charging to use, the block feature, etc, and how the company lost millions of dollars, as well as the antisemitism, people have announced that they will be leaving the site for good, but sadly only lost 5% of its users. People time after time again and again are still using one of the most controversial sites. The same reason why we still use YouTube and Facebook. People are just too addicted and that's where everything you know is. Even though there's Mastodon, BlueSky, and Threads, it's hard to move on. It's like that we can't live without it, kind of like with roads and electricity. Keep in mind I am not a Twitter/X user.

(Randomly had to put one of my memes from Imgflip)
I'm one of the people who actually did leave twitter. It was partly because I didn't want to give traffic/support to what it had turned into, but also because viewing content on there was causing me distress and making me feel awful. Leaving has been wonderful for my mental health.
I left. Back whenever Trump got reinstated. I've seen people banned from Twitter for life for less and yet... but that's too political for Subeta.

I think the hardest part about it is that it's just kind of been this background noise of....nonsensical shouting for 10 years. it's weird to live without but man am I glad I left years ago and basically everyone I know has abandoned it.
I've tried BlueSky... it's alright? honestly I think I'm over that genre of social media. back to the forums with me.

i tell myself the only reason i'm still there is because of my job but deep inside i do like and nothing quite scratches the same itch >.>
some masto instances i found are great for community/actually talking to people with similar interests but it doesn't completely fill the void. bsky has potential but i also feel the website and app are too janky and laggy to make browsing comfortable >.>
I only very briefly used Twitter, and even then I just lurked and made very few actual tweets/comments. After a while, I decided that I didn't like using a site owned by someone like that, so nowadays I only check certain specific pages for news and updates.
