Tomes are a boosting favorite in the battle community. They come from the Elemental Mage, as a reward for turning in his amulets. Amulets are obtained as from doing Quentin&;s quests, the random event where you trip over one, purchasing from user shops, or defeating certain opponents in the Coliseum*.
In return for giving them to the Mage, you be given either a matching shard or a matching tome.
The average reward is 1 tome for every 6 amulets.

Each tome gives 1-3 stats in Strength, Defense, Health, Speed, Level and Intelligence.

<li>Many challengers will drop amulets or tomes as their fifth win loot.
Most challengers also drop amulets or tomes for certain wins, following this pattern:

Medium - Amulets at 25 and 50, Tome at 75
Hard - Amulet at 25, Tome at 50
Very Hard - Tomes at wins 15 and 35

You can play Mystic Spindles to earn points to buy INT. Its best used early because the cost of buying INT goes up exponentially. The highest points you can earn per game is 40, and you can only play 10 times per day, so a total of 400 pts. As you can see with the table below, once your pet hits 200 INT, it takes 4 days to earn 1 INT. A pet with 0 Int costs 9 pts to give it 1 INT, so early on its worth it.

The Ultimate Pet Zapper

Zapping your pet at the Ultimate Pet Zapper has a chance of adding or removing stats from your pet (from -3 to +3 Strength, Defense, Health, or Level), in addition to other results like turning an item in your inventory to dust or changing your pet's species. Use it at your own risk!

There's also a chance of your minion turning to slime if he misses your pet.
