Hey everyone! Let me know if this is the wrong place to post this and I'll repost in the right place, I haven't been on a forum in a loooooong time ^^; I'm a returning user who's been back for maybe 2-3 weeks now and really enjoying being back - Subeta is so therapeutic after work, it's funny that adult me is using it for the same stress-relief that teenage me did XD

Anyway, back on topic; now that I've managed to get my pets to their pretty selves I want to jazz up their profiles and I want to start with my own. However, I have zero clues how to go about learning the skills to do this. I do wanna give the actual coding a bash with making my own rather than asking someone else to do it for me too (just feels like I'll learn a lot more about the parameters I can play around with if I do it myself before seeking some more expert profile-creators later down the line).

Could anyone recommend any YouTube vids or website tutorials to help a newb get started in coding for profiles? General advice and guidance is most welcome too <3

Thanks in advance!

I don't know if you checked it out yet or not, but the Profile & Graphics Discussion has a helpful threads section. Some of the links are broken if you click on them, but if you take the "www." out of the address in the address bar, the links should work.

w3schools has fairly comprehensive and simple-to-understand guides to HTML & CSS, which is the stuff you'll need to know if you want to mess around with user & pet profiles. the main things you need to know are:

  1. what entity on the page do i want to change the style of?
  2. how do i achieve that style?

and to answer those questions, you can:

  1. right-click anywhere on the page and select "inspect" or "inspect element" from the dropdown menu. this will pull up the inspector console on your browser window, which should have a little icon in the top left that looks like a square with a cursor hovering over it. clicking this will allow you to hover over any element on the page and see its div class or ID (classes are prefaced with a period and can apply to multiple elements on a page, while IDs are prefaced by a pound sign/hashtag and typically only apply to a single element).
  2. look through the options explained on the w3schools site, or simply google "css [thing i want to do]"—for example "css change font color" or "css rounded corners". then just apply that code with your desired specifications to the appropriate div class or ID.

you can also look at examples such as any of the free user profile templates available in the profile & graphics freebies subforum to get an idea of how things are formatted, and how to adjust them to your liking. if you have any specific questions, feel free to ask me or make a post on the profiles & graphics discussion forum.

I hadn't checked there yet - thank you! I'll check it out. This is exactly what I wanted, perfect! Have saved w3schools to my bookmarks so I'll work through that. I had no idea there was a forum for profile freebies either (kind Subetans!), I'll have a look and probably use a freebie for now whilst I learn what's what.

Thanks both! ^_^

I second w3schools. c: I also made a free coding and how to guide many moons ago but I think it still works as I see others have the template on their profiles. If you're wanting something simple to start off with. Good luck!
