Hiya, I've went back a couple pages and also checked the FAQ but I didn't see anything of the sort!

I stumbled upon a shop called "wardrobe clearout" or something akin to that and that made me wonder if there is an item limit at all when it comes to how many items you can have in your wardrobe?

No, there isn't a limit. There's an achievement for having 15,000 items in your Wardrobe though, which in my experience makes it pretty unwieldy to use and actually find things. My guess would be the shop belongs to someone who hit the achievement and is trying to get rid of things that they had in their wardrobe for the achievement but don't want to actually keep long-term
