Hey! I'm new, so maybe the answer is obvious. Here on Subeta, I noticed that Adopt R Us is always 'housing 0 pets' when I check it out. On an alternative but similar website, Neopets, there are hundreds, if not thousands of abandoned-right-after-being-created pets in the pound. How are there none on Subeta? Are level 1 pets deleted from the pound, making it more scarce? Thanks!

When pets names became non unique I noticed all of the pets in the pound quickly got adopted up. Either because people wanted any legacy names they could scoop up or due to pets now being free to rename the unique coloured pets got adopted to be renamed. This quickly emptied out Adopt-r-us.

There’s not much making a new pet “unique” anymore so it doesn’t make much sense to abandon them as anything about them is easily changed. Any pet worth adopting out will more than likely be advertised on the forums as up for adoption.

There’s also a lot less concurrent players on Subeta compared to others pet sites so there’s not many, if any, people creating pets simply to abandon them.

Personally I’m very attached to my pets and would prefer to adopt my pets out to someone who actually wanted them rather and drop them in the pound.

I think it's a combination of things. For starters, your account has to be a month old before you can abandon a pet, so it's harder for someone to make an account and create + abandon pets just to troll. It's also pretty easy to change a pet's name, species, color, and gender to whatever you want so unless you're looking to adopt pets with specific traits like certain IDs or legacy names, it's pretty simple to just change a pet you already have instead of abandoning one to start over.

I know people DO abandon pets, but IME the adoption center is usually pretty close to empty if not completely empty

now that pet names are no longer unique [and existing pets are easily renamed/recoloured], there isn't really a point in abandoning them. unless someone just doesn't want to go through the process of making a forum post to adopt their pets out to specific users, pets don't often get abandoned anymore.

In my experience the pound has never had more than a few pets at a time. The most I've ever seen was five at once. Pets do come in but you have to periodically check (about once a day) and be patient. Don't expect a pet to be there and you won't get frustrated. Most of time pets will have base stats (level 1, stat 10 in everything) BUT occasionally you will see a pet with decent stats. Two of my pets are from Adopt R Us. One I adopted 2 months ago and had around 250 intelligence and about 20-40 in all other stats. My most recent one has stats near 80 minus level and is a legacy pet (2009). Unfortunately, the name has been erased, but 2009!

The biggest advantage is you can get pets in colors otherwise very expensive.

not NEVER. before names were made non-unique, the pound often had dozens of pets—hundreds, even, when the site had more active users. there used to be pound clear-outs where staff would periodically delete every pet in the pound, because it was so full and many of the pets were just sitting there unwanted for ages at a time.

i used to really enjoy trawling the pound for interesting and inspiring names, or particularly cool color-species combos—that's how i got most of my pets.

WHAT! I blame my years of random MIA on Subeta because I don't remember this. I'm positive I checked the pound time to time before legacy was a thing. Did you get high stats too?

it would have been mostly between 2010-2016, which i guess is quite a while ago at this point...

i've only gotten two pets with high stats from the pound, but it was never something i was actively looking for so i'm sure there were plenty others.

That makes sense. I don't think I ever really paid attention to Adopt R Us during that time now that I think of it.
