Which opponents are you trying to fight? Some of them have healing disabled, like Daemon and Eclipse.

Eclipse, was there somewhere i could have read that? I feel silly now.

There's user-made guides that mention it in the battle forums, but I don't think there's any place officially on-site that tells you. Unfortunately, the only way to find out is by trial and error. Challengers can have scrolls, defense, healing, or blessings and curses disabled, but mostly that only happens with the higher tier challengers.
