Have your items transformed into rift items...

Is it random or are there only specific items that can be transformed into rift items?

some are random, and some are obtained by throwing specific items into the rift, although even then you still might not get a rift item. you can see a list here; the notes on each item should specify how to get it.

just any item. as mentioned, some items have a higher chance of being obtained if you use the item listed in the notes of the linked list; for example, throwing a Blob Kitty into the rift gives you a high likelihood of receiving a Rift Blob Kitty in return, but you might also receive nothing at all.

Do we know if there are specific item recipes known for the new rift items yet?

there's nothing listed for them so i think it's still unknown if they require specific items or if they're just random. you're welcome to experiment for yourself, though.
