How do I increase my pets' strength and levels? They seem to randomly level up.

Okay, silly question. How do I know I've done that? Do I get an alert? Newbie to training center here.

while in the training center the drop down has the stats listed, so

strength defense health speed level

if the stat is listed, you can tain it it, if not its the highest it can go via level, if only level is listed all the stats are higher than the level allows, a way passed this of course is via stat boosters

example: a level 1 pet with the starting stats(10 in each except int) has no choice but to train in level

In addition to using the training center, you can also battle with your pet to earn experience. The Battle Coliseum has a list of challengers you can battle. There's a menu at the top of the battle coliseum and you can click Spend Exp to buy stats with the experience points you earned from battling.

If you'll be going the battling way of earning experience to spend on stats, I recommend checking out the Useful Battle Links thread in the Battle forum (and the Battle forum more broadly). You'll find the introductions useful, as well as the Weapon Guide linked for finding affordable weapons at each tier.

And just a couple tips as a grizzled vet of leveling up pets rapidly to get them into jobs:

1. I highly suggest battling the easier opponents first; they often drop these specials eggs that you can use on (not feed!!) your pets to give them 1-3 points of a specific stat, as well as giving a good chuck of experience (the opponents, not the eggs).
2. You can also do some battle quests to earn more experience after (or while) you've exhausted some of the regular opponents.
3. You also do not need to adhere to the 1 level to 2.5 stat rule when purchasing stats with experience, but you should stick to this earlier on in your training journey.
4. And final tip--I recommend using experience points to level up your pet since levels are cheapest and putting them in the training center for other stats, particularly health.

I spend experience on anything but level because I don't use the training center anymore. Once you're no longer training, level is no longer worth buying.
