This is not a guide on what to do for battles this is how battles work. I'll take info from the official guides and break that down to simple term while removing fluff.

Firstly one of the most fundamental things about battling attacking, blocking, and doing damage. For this we need to know about icons, there are 9 types.

NameDarkEarthFireIceLightMagmaPhysicalWaterWind
Attack:dmg:dark::dmg:earth::dmg🔥:dmg🧊:dmg:light::dmg:magma::dmg:physical::dmg:water::dmg:wind:
Defense:block:dark::block:earth::block🔥:block🧊:block:light::block:magma::block:physical::block:water::block:wind:
Icons are dealt by weapons they can be attack or defense icons many have some combo of both.

Lets do an example a pet with base stats VS. Technicant

PETTechniant
HEALTH 10 STRENGTH 10 (DPI = ~0.7529) DEFENSE 10 (DPI = ~0.7906) SPEED 10 HEALTH 30 STRENGTH 25 (DPI = ~1.1905) DEFENSE 20 (DPI = ~1.118) SPEED 50

Lets do a round of battle, let's say the pet uses "Evergreen Shield" and "Pea Bomb" while Techniant will uses "Drone Attack" and "Projectile Leg"

Evergreen Shield2 :block:physical: | 2 :block:earth:
Pea bomb3 :dmg🔥 | 4 :dmg:earth: | 3 :dmg:magma:
Drone Attack2 :dmg:physical: | 1 :dmg:earth: | 1 :block:earth:
Projectile Leg1 :dmg:earth: | 1 :dmg:wind: | 2 :dmg:physical:
Now the actual math is complex and imposs to break down so we'll use numbers I have calculated out for the example, they're noted above as DPI and the decimal is rounded to 4 decimal numbers. Also note only two weapons are used in a round.

Interesting note I have calculated out and determined that 1 attack icon != 1 defense icon, its approx...... 0.9524 attack = 1 defense.

Let's look at the attack Pea bomb. First there is fire icons, there is 3 so we multiply by the attack DPI of the PET's attack which is 3 * 0.7529 = 2.2587‬ is the damage, then let us do the same for magma icons 3 * 0.7529 = 2.2587 damage and finally earth 4 * 0.7529 = 3.0116‬ damage. Evergreen Shield does no attack icons so we can skip that for now. Before we add the numbers up lets look at the opponent's weapons for defense so there is a matching defense earth icon let's calculate the defense DPI for it 1 * 1.118 = 1.118 block. So let's remove that earth block from the earth damage, 3.0116 - 1.118 = 1.8936‬ is the remaining damage. Now the other two types of damage go right through since the opponent has no block icons. So 2.2587 + 1.8936 + 2.2587 = 6.411‬ total damage it would probably round down to 6 damage.

Let's look at the techniant's attacks. The damage icons are 2 physical, 2 earth and 1 wind. Both physical and earth 2 * 1.1905 = 2.381‬ damage and wind 1 * 1.1905 = 1.1905 damage. Before we add these let's look at the block icons of the PET's weapons which is 2 physical and 2 earth, both of them are 2 * 0.7906 = 1.5812‬ block. Now let's remove the block from the damage since the numbers for each are the same one equatio will be shown again 2.381 - 1.5812‬ = 0.7998 damage gotten through. So let's add it all up 0.7998 + 0.7998 + 1.1905 = 2.7901 total damage it would probably round up this time 3 damage.

So this simulated round ended with the PET taking 3 damage and Tecniant taking 6 damage.

The battle ends when at least one of them reaches 0 health. Now that cover the attack stat for damage, and the defense stat for blocking damage.

Now pretty much there is only speed left to explain. To me it's an extremely important stat it influences crit chance. Crits will double the damage done in a round (idk if it's before or after the block subtraction though). Although there is a caveat your pet's crit chance will be at minimum 10%. If your pet outspeeds the opponent even by one point then the opponent on the other hand has no chance to crit. Now the chance of a crit happening or how the ratio of who is going to crit are unknown factors and quite impossible to calculate.

There is also weapons that have healing health, so your or the opponent's health can go up as well. There is freezing as well when you or the opponent get's frozen they can't use weapons for the next turn. There is also curses and blessings which can disable/prevent things like freezing or add additional block or attack icons.

Also there is stealing and destroying weapons but in the beginning can be ignored.

For weapons there is a couple restrictions which is tiers and only bringing 8 to battle. Each weapon will have a tier requirement and your pet has a tier they start at 1 and as their total stats excluding level and intelligence (so health, attack, defense, speed) go up their tier will increase as well. The following link shows the chart for tiers compared to total stats, https://subeta.net/games/battle/battleguide.php#Tierssection

There is one other stat we haven't touched on that is intelligence but what we are concerned with AP which is connected with intelligence, 1 AP is 16 points of intelligence. You get intel points from reading books to pet, using certain boosters, or using spindle points (which is only good for low intelligence pets). But why is this important well that has to do with another thing that I hadn't touched which is scrolls, these are separate from weapons. You can bring as many scrolls as you want as long as the total AP requirement for all scrolls are met by your pet. You can think of scroll like a third attack in a round. Even the most crummy scroll with the requirement of 1 AP that adds a couple icons is very beneficial since that is every round.

Another thing about weapons and scrolls, they each have a usage category which is infinite, semi-breakable, once per battle and single use. First the most stupid one which if a weapon or scroll is classified as Single use never use it, ever. Why well once used it goes forever not just during battle but also from your armoury forever so you'd need to buy it again to use. Now Once per battle is the weapon become unusable after one use but unlike Single use will still be around after the battle. Then there is infinite which is simple you can use it as many times in battle. Then finally there is semi-breakable which is like Once per battle but there is a chance you can use it more than once during a battle, so it can be used for 3 rounds or 1 round it's all dependant on RNG for the number of uses in a battle.

Can be ignored but there are also weapons that have slots for mods, which can add attack, defense icons or can even activate curses or blessings which can add icons or prevent/disable other things. This can add an extra edge if one is needed.

Lastly which can totally be ignored at the start but just to touch on it there is also potions which are directly equipped to a pet. Most of the time are ignored since they def add an expense to use constantly but for a little extra edge can be helpful. Similar to scrolls can be seen as an extra attack in a round.

(Anything confusing well there def is this is version 0.5. Let me know what in particular and I'll try to reword it. Are you a battler think I missed a mechanic or didn't put enough importance on it let me know)

I like how you showed the pet's weapons blocking the challenger's icons and the damage that gets through. I have to admit, I get overwhelmed when it comes to the actual calculations.

I think the comprehensive guides are great for people who want to dive in a bit deeper when they have time. I'd like to see a brief guide that covers a default weapon/scroll set and basic order of moves. A guide like that would go a long way to steer players toward wins and encourage them to dive deeper into the world of battling. Frequently I see people with too many main attackers equipped at once and no clear direction of the order they should be played.

A guide like that may exist, but I haven't found one in the useful battle links thread. It's difficult to make a helpful guide that is brief and concise, especially when considering all the complexities of battling. Perhaps a collaborative thread could be a type of guide where people say, "I battled (insert Challenger here) today with my pet (insert Pet Name here) and this is the weapon/scroll set and order of moves I used." That would be especially helpful for people, including me! I may not have a lot of weapons, but I can use that information to tailor it to my armory and scrolls. Just putting my ramblings out there. lol
