There's been a whole bunch of recent items like these:

That are limited by being a body overlay instead of an unlockable skin with toggleable limbs etc. Personally I feel that they would be more versatile in skin form, though it would take more coding effort I'm sure.

I'm thinking something like hair coupons, but for skins. These items could be kept as individual wearables, or "redeemed" as avatar skins.

Thoughts?

I forgot zombie skins weren't toggleable. I still think it would be convenient to have the ability to "redeem" these overlays as a skin even so, but I guess that's less of what I was thinking since I really was going for the removable limbs thing. Oops.

The Skins tab skins in the wardrobe don't have toggleable limbs either, so while I wouldn't necessarily object to these items being redeemable as skins, I don't really think it's necessary either since they do have pretty much the same effect. I would at least like additional sorting options to be added to the Skins tab first if they were going to make redeemable ones though

I think it would be more organised and consistent if either all "skin" items were made into unlockable skins, or the reverse where unlocking a skin gives you an item instead of being in that part of the wardrobe. But it all depends on coding. The first option seems like it would be much easier to do, but it could still be hard. I guess it would only really matter if they brought back the layer limit, since skins don't take up a layer as far as I know.

Right now all the "skin" items in the skin tab have to be earned by the account holder. If you start making "unlockable skins" they become a commodity instead of an item earned. This would completely change the zombie and zapper skin events - good or bad? I don't know. But I think it would require a much broader discussion.

There is no benefit to making the "skin" items into skin tabs since the limbs can't be toggled anyway. And there is one major disadvantage - you can't use more than one skin tab at a time, so you wouldn't be able to make some interesting "combo skins" like these:
